Flesh parted under the keen blade gliding with 迅速, 斯威夫特 steadiness across an alarming red wound. A hiss rattled from the chest inches from her hand. The clink of a metal scalpel tapping a wooden bowl mixed in din of soft voices touching cool halls.
“Hrrgg…” The voice rose from its hiss, a growl now, choked with pain, “Vaccine…that…that hurts…!”
Soft 粉, 粉色 eyes fell over the agonized patient lying vulnerable on his foil paper bench table. A soothing gray hand of hers held him 由 the forearm.
“Patience- you’re saving lives for the sacrifice.”
“Is cutting half…half my arm necessary…?”
“I’m nearly finished.”
The hedgehog doctor bowed her head slightly, black hair gleaming with soft hues in the sunlight breeching the small medical room. The Komodo dragon under Doctor Vaccine’s hand calmed considerably.
She resumed cutting.
“I’ve taken the examinations at their modest,” the komodo continued. His voice fought back the agony that grazed and slid into his open arm. Sweat dribbled from his brow and slid between his odd, blush colored eyes which glanced up at the ceiling underneath hooded green lids. They were serene despite the convulsion his face suffered now and again under the blade applied to his left upper arm.
Vaccine frowned. She found it displeasing to know her patients had been poking through her examination X-rays,
“I’ve told 你 not to worry. For all we know your condition could be feeble as a cold, Penku.”
Penku Komodo sighed- the type of sigh 给 when one was simply tired. Tired of talking. Of thinking.
Vaccine knew why. Years in her line of work taught many things upon the right people starting early. Simply body language explained an individual’s whole effort during treatment. But this method wasn’t required.
Penku was part of the Oasian Defense. Like many of the young and eager, he served in protecting the piddling villagers of Oasis. The simple act of defense against the horrors of the desert lands could send a whole army of Orla’s into death’s caused from exhaustion.
But what separated Penku from most the O.D. members other than looks and skill was his origin.
Vaccine tapped her scalpel again. Crimson blood blossomed within the water mixed testing chemicals swirling in the wooden dish standing on 最佳, 返回页首 a small steel 表 beside the bench. The gray hedgehog rolled her long sleeves back of the crisp white lab 涂层, 外套 she wore to the rounded, steady shoulders and observed her patient.
The komodo lying to face the ceiling was a buff creature. From his horned head down to the small thick clawed toe nails, Penku was covered in thick green scales. The chest represented a round heart, thick cream colored plates layered down a lithe physic. His stiff, spike ridged tail stuck beside his right thigh. Its tip shadowed the strange bandage turban lying beside his gem crushed boots at the rattan mat floor. Light gleamed across his head horns, passing the cheek and side burn pair framing his serene flat eyes and slitted muzzle.
Stretched towards Vaccine’s office 台, 办公桌 at the far-right of the room, Penku’s arm held position over 表 ledge. A long, gruesome cut raced in an elegant furrow from his shoulder to lower upper arm. His blood dribbled and flowed steadily down his buff arm and dripped into a long, shallow pan on the rattan.
Penku’s flush eyes darted with reptilian smoothness from the slight cobwebs of the carved ceiling to Vaccine’s observant gaze. The doctor caught his questioning look and she bowed her head in modesty before setting the scalpel down.
“I’ve done what I could. Thanks for your time, Penku.”
Penku merely grunted and rose from the 表 to sit at its edge. He studied his arm with a look of disdain as Vaccine pulled clean bandages from a retractable post in the floor. Useful, that post- an experiment the Orla tested when Oasis had been discovered 由 the Stagroots around a decade ago.
The post was merely a root carved into a hollow holding device that slid in and out of its narrow pit in the floor. A thick end underground saved it from being completely uprooted.
Vaccine retrieved the white bandages from its 最佳, 返回页首 shelf and released the post’s 最佳, 返回页首 handle. It slid down within the earth with a smooth thud.
Penku held remarkably still, Vaccine applying a thick transparent past along the bloody furrow. Though the komodo was a constant patient, she explained the paste’s qualities.
“The paste will clean and help heal the wound within the first twenty four hours of fresh bandage. Just keep the cast on and in a few days of changing it yourself, I’ll need 你 to come straight back to me for a fresh apply. Wouldn’t want it infected, do we?”
She ripped the extra bandage away from it’s roll, craftily tying it’s end a tight 包, 换行 underneath an extra layer of the cast, Underneath her cool hands she felt Penku’s arm muscle’s flex.
“Tighter than last time,” He observed in his quiet voice.
“Bigger cut.”
Vaccine turned from the komodo in order to give him the privacy to dress. As her sharp ears touched the sound of boots lifting from the straw her attention came to a short pile of paperwork waiting on 最佳, 返回页首 the desk. A weight of desert stone carved in the shape of a flat 蜥蜴 claw sat on the slightly untidy stack.
She’d forgotten. Regardless of being stranded in the middle of no where, she and those of the O.D.’s infirmary had to sort out documents based on their patients. Each patient had a separate 个人资料 regarding their medical needs. Mostly for a take over 或者 assistant’s guide when the time came.
A scraping took Vaccine’s gaze off the paperwork and thoughts. Towards the twin windows carved into her office that flanked the wall, a gulping noise could be heard. Moments later towards the doctor’s curiosity a sleek, dry skinned head popped over the ledge. It was a type of desert lizard, and when it turned it’s flat, observant head to the side to look with a single pupiless purple eye, Vaccine knew it 由 custom it was a messenger Limbardis.
Without invite the creature finished it’s climb. Up over the sill and into the medical room it came, body sibilant as a serpent, but waddle as an elder drake. It’s size retained that of a small cat and made little noise as one. The feet of any Limbardis was thin and fingered and contained webbing between them, as if made to rush across hot sands 或者 water. The tiny nails on each toe clacked, webbing flapping against the surfaces.
The color of this Limbardis remained to the dull tones of it’d male kind: a drab brown with a pale cream throat and tail. The only stark markings were contained in it’s purple eyes and webbing, matching the rolled parchment affixed to it’s appendage.
Vaccine approached the desk, offering her hand to the Limbardis as it made a magnificent leap from window to desktop. It’s form glided, and at Vaccine’s hospitality shuffled smoothly along her arm to rest at her shoulder. It’s tail brushed her cheek, and she went to untying the message immediately.
Unfolding the purple parchment the doctor set to reading, all the while satisfying the Limbardis messenger with gentle caresses along it’s blunt snout.
Doctor-
Your case and theory of komodo blood seems to be accurate. Your experiment with the throat serum and the inclusion of this component has physical impact on Stelis. Though it appeared a grisly idea at first, I now see it has helpful effects. 你 have my sincerest gratitude.
I was to pass an memorandum from the advisor of a small appointment three glades from now. Of her intentions I’m unsure- however my bet lies within the Cause.
Give my regards to those of the Oasian Defense. Though piddling your actions cease to fail us all.
Best of Wishes-
Madius Stagroot.
“Appointment?” Vaccine repeated. She looked up from the notice into the desert beyond the window.
Outside, though sweltering waves dancing off the sands, the outcast shape of a root rising from the smoldering earth gazed back at a long distance. The Stagroot residence.
Why would Oasis’ most regarded advisor set an appointment with someone of the O.D.? Last Vaccine checked, the villagers loathe their organization- much included those of the counsel.
“Vaccine- I’m leaving. Route Exchange,” Came Penku’s voice floating behind her, back at the bench.
“Remember, few days,” She called back.
The sound of filled boots leaving the medical and door thudding after soothed her in the embalmment of silence, save the soft trills reaching her window from those below.
