One day, I noticed that my mother wasn't 表演 right. She was very pale and seemed lethargic. She also had a terrible cough. She went to the doctor and was diagnosed with pneumonia. She was later put in the hospital. The doctor 说 that things weren't looking good. It wasn't pneumonia; it was much worse. It was myocarditis. Suddenly, it happened. Her 心 stopped beating. The doctor tried to revive her, but to no avail. I still remember the chilling words like they were 说 yesterday: "Time of death: 11:32 pm." I did not want to believe I had 迷失 my mother. At first, I blamed the doctor for not recognizing the problem sooner. Grandma said, "Erin, the doctor did everything he could. There's no one to blame." I cried out, "So, I'm supposed to believe this is the will of God?!" She said, "Erin, recall that the Bible says that part of being a Christian is suffering." I said, "Really? Why did Mother have to suffer like this?! What did she do to deserve that?!" Grandma said, "Erin, the Bible says that all have sinned and have come short of the glory of God." I said, "You're saying Mother is in Hell, aren't you?!" Grandma said, "No, that's not what I'm saying, dear." I ran out of the room sobbing. I ignored my brother, Daniel, as he shouted, "Erin, wait! Erin!" He later found me outside the hospital crying. He said, "There 你 are, little sis." I 说 through tears, "Why, Daniel? Why did Mother have to die?" He said, "I don't have the answers, Erin. Grandma was trying to help, but she only made the situation worse. That was uncalled for. I know that's what the scriptures say, but that was not the time for it. You're upset." I asked, "What's going to happen to us?" He said, "It's going to be okay. Our aunt and uncle have been named as our legal guardians. They'll be taking care of us now." That was very perceptive for a fourteen-year-old. Still, things were never the same after that. Grandma and Grandpa told me, "Just pray, and everything will be okay." I prayed long and hard, but it didn't help. Suddenly, I felt as if I was wasting my time. The only thing that seemed to help was music. One day, I was hanging out with my cousin, Barbara Ann. She said, "I know you've 说 音乐 makes 你 feel better when you're feeling down. Here's some 更多 good 音乐 for you." She took out her iPod, and some great 音乐 played. "Hey, Jude, don't make it bad. Take a sad song and make it better." That sounded nice. I asked, "What's the song? Who sings it?" She said, "The song is called 'Hey Jude'. It was performed 由 a band called the Beatles." I said, "Nice." She introduced me to a couple of other songs. I said, "They're amazing! Are they still around?" She said, "No, they broke up in 1970." I said, "Rats! Are any of the members still living?" She said, "Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are the only ones living." I had 更多 questions, and I got 更多 answers. I said, "It would be awesome if they were all still alive and still together." She said, "Yes, it would be. We could have gone to a 音乐会 together." It was then I began to realize that God was distant from me, and 音乐 was closer.

"After that, I made sure to stay in touch with my mother," Henry went on. "I called her regularly and flew in to see her as often as I could. I'm happy to say I was able to be with her in her final days."
The boys smiled a little sadly.
"My life was fairly normal after that," Henry recalled. "I continued to travel and to work as a 音乐 producer. But then one 日 I decided to retire. I was getting on in years, I thought, and surely it was time to stop working."
"But it wasn't?" Felix prompted.
Henry shook his head with a smile. "I soon discovered I could never leave the 音乐 business behind. I'd...

The boys' looked sympathetic. They all 说 in unison, "Oh, no! Not another tragedy!" Henry nodded. "Yes," he said, "another tragedy." He sighed. "It was the summer of 1982. I had been producing a new record, and I was told that I had a phone call. I answered it. It happened to be my mother." He held back some tears. "She told me that my father had been having health issues, and they seemed minor. One day, he collapsed at home. He was rushed to the hospital, but it was too late. The doctor 说 that he had a 心 attack." Henry couldn't hold back the tears anymore. Les put a comforting hand...

"So what happened after 你 decided to stop being a hippie?" Jimmy prompted him.
Henry settled back in his chair. "Well, around that time I was beginning to get tired of always being on the road. I loved the adventure in my youth, but I started to miss not having a proper 首页 - 或者 neighbourhood, since I knew 由 then I wouldn't be getting married. I was just over thirty when I decided to quit being a roadie. My travels had taken me to North Carolina, and I knew I wanted to settle there. I was near the ocean which I loved, and it was near where I grew up but not too near - I knew I wouldn't want...

After a moment of crying together, Henry and the boys dried their tears. Henry said, "Okay, how about something happier now?" The boys nodded "yes". Henry said, "A 年 had passed. It was 1967, the Summer of Love. Arguably, that's when the hippie scene started." Charles asked, "Were 你 a hippie back in the day?" Henry said, "Well, kind of. I dabbled in the scene a bit. I grew my hair long." Les said, "I never thought 你 would have long hair." Henry laughed. "I've got a picture to prove it." He took a picture out of his wallet. Sure enough, it was a younger version of Henry with long hair....

The band gathered round to listen closely, drawn in 由 the faraway, almost dreamy smile that had come over Henry's face.
"It was also in '65, I believe, on a warm summer's day. She was sitting 下一个 to me in the stands, the prettiest girl 你 ever saw. And so excited to see the Beatles, 你 could feel it. Her smile made 你 want to smile too." Henry paused for a moment as if savouring the memory of all these details. "I wanted to lean over and introduce myself, but 你 boys know how loud the Beatles' concerts were. No chance at all of her hearing me. Everyone was cheering as loud as they could...

The boys perked up when they heard that Henry was once a roadie. "We'd 爱情 to hear about those days!" they said. Henry said, "Well, after I left home, I made my way to Memphis. I'm sure 你 know it was the birthplace of rock and roll. People did have a hard time taking me seriously at first." Charles asked, "Was it because 你 looked young for your age?" Henry nodded. "Yeah. I didn't look seventeen. People thought I was 更多 like fourteen, and they were surprised I was able to drive. They soon learned to take me seriously when they saw how I was able to lift heavy equipment with ease. Just...

"I was born in Tennessee," Henry began. "My father was a miner in the coal mines, and my mother stayed 首页 to cook and clean and raise me. 你 didn't see a lot of women with jobs in those days," he added, as the band members leaned in closer to listen.
"My childhood was nothing terribly unusual," Henry went on. "I went to school, and I was a good student - not 最佳, 返回页首 of the class 由 any means, but my parents never complained about my grades. I went to church and Sunday school, and in the afternoons and on weekends I would play outside with the other boys in the neighbourhood. My parents were strict,...

Introduction

A Wave Tossed in the Ocean had just released their 秒 album, and they were on tour promoting it. It was March. It was a cold winter night, so the members of A Wave Tossed in the Ocean, and their manager, Henry, were staying warm in their hotel room. They were taking turns telling funny stories. Henry laughed and said, "I know I've 说 it before, and I'll say it again: you're like the sons I've never had." Charles, not really thinking...

A few hours later, Una and Everett were comfortably snuggled up together on the couch, sharing the last of Una's chocolates which lay in the open box between them, as the credits rolled on the movie.
"That was so good," murmured Una, her head resting on Everett's shoulder. "You know - I was looking 前锋, 期待 to your plans, whatever they were going to be, but I was really hoping we'd be able to watch this."
Everett gave a small laugh and shook his head. "I wish I'd known. I could have saved myself all this trouble."
Una grinned. "This year, our Valentine's 日 plans were on me," she said. "Next 年 I expect it to be your turn."
Everett felt a warm rush at the thought of 下一个 year, that Una was so certain they would be celebrating Valentine's 日 together 下一个 year. But then... of course, Everett though. He wouldn't have considered anything different.
"I 爱情 you, Una," he said.
"I 爱情 你 too, Everett," she said.

Valentine's 日 had finally arrived. Everett still had nothing special for Una. He felt ashamed of himself. A part of him wanted to tell Una that he was sick but lying to her wouldn't solve his problem. He had to tell her the truth. He proceeded to get ready, and he went to Una's house. He 说 to himself, "She's going to be so disappointed. What if she decides to break up with me?" He then said, "It's a risk you'll have to take, Everett. Honesty is the best policy." He then rang the doorbell.

Una had just finished getting ready when she heard the doorbell ring. She said, "I'll get it." She...

“You don't have any tables for that night? Are 你 sure?”
“Yes, sir.” The gentleman's voice on the other end of Everett's phone was polite but firm. “Most people book weeks in advance for a 流行的 time like Valentine's Day.”
Everett sighed, thanked the man anyway, and hung up the phone. His chin dropped into his arms on the table. That was the fifth fancy restaurant he had called, and every one had told him the same thing. No one had any 太空 for him to make a reservation, even really early 或者 really late.
No special necklace... no fancy dinner... What was he going to do? Una was...

Everett went to the mall the 下一个 day, trying to figure out what to do for Una for their first Valentine's Day. He then noticed the jewelry store. "That's it!" he 说 to himself. "I'll get Una a beautiful necklace. I know she likes necklaces. She has so many of them. She never wears the same one every day." He then saw a sign advertising a beautiful 项链 on sale. It was fourteen karat gold, and it had a 星, 星级 on it. Una was sure to 爱情 it! He went to talk to the woman at the front desk. She said, "I'm so sorry. We just sold out." He said, "Oh, that's too bad." She said, "I could special...

Everett flipped the calendar page from January to February one mild winter morning, wondering why something felt 更多 significant about February than it did every other year. Then his eye wandered down the page to the fourteenth, and he laughed and shook his head. Of course, he reminded himself. Most years, he didn't think too much about Valentine's 日 beyond giving his parents a call and wishing them a happy one. But this 年 was different. This would be the first Valentine's 日 that he and Una would spend together.
Everett's heartbeat quickened. He had to do something big for Una - something...

Hi, everyone! Antonia here, and as I type this, today is the last 日 of 2021! I can't believe this 年 is almost over. It has gone 由 so fast. Where has all the time gone?

The past two years have been challenging for many people for many reasons. Just remember: crap storms suck, but they don't last forever. I don't know what the future holds for any of us, but I do know that it is best to live in the moment and take each 日 as it comes.

Despite everything going on in the world, it didn't slow me and my 老友记 now. Some exciting things happened for us this year. In January, I brought my dog,...
