Changelings have existed for 更多 than 4 million years, and they are the one of the oldest known species in Equestria. When the world was first created, there was nothing but changelings. Soon enough, the changelings discovered the art of disguise, and the 更多 times they reproduced the better they got at mimicking pony-like figures. As time passed, 更多 of the offspring where born already transfigured as a pony, and stayed that way. Pure changelings are extremely uncommon, and it is estimated that there are less than ten thousand left.

Changeling culture is much different than one might expect. When a 小马 thinks about changelings, they would expect gruesome and sickening rituals in their past. However, these creatures are not much different than ponies in terms of traditions. One of their most common celebrations is Hearts and Hooves day, believe it 或者 not. They despise their own kind, but every 年 on February 14th they put aside their grudges and think about the good things in each other. Hearts and Hooves 日 is the 日 when the changelings are strongest because of all the 爱情 being spread around. This 日 marks many changeling attacks across time. Other 流行的 traditions are Changeling Ceremonies. When a changeling reaches seven years of age, it gets an exam from the changeling queen. If the changeling successfully transforms and passes the test, it stays in the herd. However, if they fail, they get banished from the hive.
