 Dictionaries are a handy tool.
Dictionaries are a handy tool.
One thing that's becoming 更多 and 更多 prominent as time goes on, is that people online don't feel the need to use good grammar and spelling. Now, despite the fact that when on IM 或者 whatevs, it's really fine to use all of these little abbreviations like "jk" "lol" "atm" etc. etc. etc. Before I get any farther into this uncontrolled rant, let me just say that I do use some internet slang. Most of this, however, are words that I make up. So, whatevs, deelie, yuppers, wazhappenin, etc. etc. etc. I'm not one to use mainstream slang other than "lol" because there is NO replacement for LOL. No, like really.

So anyways, the thing I'm going to lecture 你 kiddies about today is, using proper grammar and spelling and punctuation in your writing. This is quite important, if 你 want respect for jobs in the future, for typing a formal 写作 piece, and also just gaining respect from 你 fellow internet-goers. Before I used good typing, people on sites looked down on me for my typing and writing. No joke, they refused to read my stuff. Since then, I have learned to use good punctuation, spelling, grammar etc.

So 你 may be wondering: Why do I care about any of this?? Well, here's why: I'M NOT GOING TO RESPECT 你 UNLESS 你 USE GOOD GRAMMAR. And other people won't either. So, now that I've made my point, I'm going to give 你 tips in your internet writing:

1. Always use spell check, when possible. My internet has a spell check built in (I use firefox, I dunno if everyone has it who uses firefox but it's very handy) so that tends not to be a problem for me. But if you're going to go write something longer than a sentence 或者 two on a site, it doesn't hurt to open up Word and run spell check. 你 WILL benefit from it. And appear to be quite intelligent.

2. CUTTING DOWN ON INTERNET SLANG: Now, I'm about to teach 你 this vital trick. USE FULL WORDS. When it comes time to type that LA essay, 你 will be a better typist AND it'll save a lot of editing for you. As 说 before, some internet slang (like lol) doesn't really have a substitute. Well, instead of replying with 哈哈 sometimes, try saying "that made me laugh" 或者 "that's funny". But really, honestly, 哈哈 should ONLY be used in internet conversation. If you're using it in an essay, then we don't care if what 你 说 is funny. If we think it's funny, we'll laugh and "lol" you.

Now, others are quite obvious. What and wut. n2m to nothing much. It make take 秒 更多 to type, but it's easier to understand and just all around better. For example, one of my 老友记 types with no capitalization 或者 punctuation. His sentences are impossible to understand, because I hafta find the breaks 由 myself, which isn't always so easy. Here's an example of something he once 说 "ya these seats are nice look at this a cup holder it goes up and down kool" Which would be read as one long sentence but was intended as "ya these seats are nice. look at this a cup holder. it goes up and down . kool." 由 me simply placing in periods, I made all the difference. Now, watch what happens when I add good spelling "Yeah, these seats are nice. Look at this cup holder. It goes up and down. Cool." Look just how far we've come from "ya these seats are nice look at this a cup holder it goes up and down kool" It makes all the difference.
Leave your slang at AIM please.
Leave your slang at AIM please.

I have been noticing this as a problem on 潮流粉丝俱乐部 recently. In fact, I just did a pick where there were no real words and/or spelling, all net slang. I couldn't understand a single thing written in the pick, and therefore, couldn't make my pick. Come on guys, using good spelling and grammar isn't that hard. It's something 你 need to learn in order to get respect from others. Please, take this into consideration and actually use it 更多 than normal. The world will thank you.

A generic link 标题 is about as helpful as using this picture to guess what color this person's eyes are.
A generic link title is about as helpful as using this picture to guess what color this person's eyes are.
Have 你 ever gone to a spot and seen 3 链接 with the exact same title? Have 你 ever seen a video of an annual event and wondered if it was from this 年 或者 last years show? Gone through a whole video on a spot and wondered why it was there? The problem is generic titling. There is a very simple solution for this that I will explain to 你 and help 你 put into play in your everyday Fanpopping.
Have I read this 文章 before??? I just can't tell with this generic title!

When I first started on 潮流粉丝俱乐部 I didn't exactly know what 潮流粉丝俱乐部 really was, I just was on 潮流粉丝俱乐部 so I could see 视频 of my favourite tv shows.
But then I noticed that 你 could do other things like answering picks and I started to do that.
Some picks made me laugh really hard, other made me think about things that I've never really thought about.
I did that for a while and it was (and still is) really fun to do and then I began to notice that when I couldn't sleep, 或者 just was bored, I was making picks in my head.

And then I had this brilliant idea (yes, I know, I'm a genius:D) that I could...

This is a quick guide to using the new IM and Chat beta launch.

Rooms Tab:
The global-chat is open to all registered fans.

There is another room that is reserved for users of a certain level, and you'll also see that in the Rooms tab. In the past, we've had a few 随意 people come in and hit on the people in the chat rooms, so the reserved room should be relatively free of such riff-raff.

Contact Tab:
Setting custom status messages: click on the pencil, and type away!

Turning off chat: Click on the bubble 下一个 to "I am online" and click on the red "Log out" option on the menu.

Contacts are your mutual...
