Why are they called spots and not clubs?

They used to be called spots, but 潮流粉丝俱乐部 changed it to clubs, presumably to make it a little clearer that 潮流粉丝俱乐部 is a fanclub based site. Us old people still call them "spots" because we are too old to change our ways.
