Role playing 或者 Rping as most of the community calls it. Almost everyone's done it one way 或者 another whether they realize it 或者 not. Remember those days when you'd pretend 你 were a movie character 或者 a prince/princess 或者 a pirate 或者 whatever. 你 were role playing in a since. Now days when 你 hear the word role playing 你 probably think things like War Craft, 星, 星级 Craft, Nights and Dragons, Toontown, etc..
Something you've probably never figured however, is rping in relation to writing. Writing, that's all rping basically is. It's just 写作 a collaborative story from different points of view and interacting.
Rping pre-established plot 或者 not can be a lot of fun and very productive. Especially when writing, 你 can create a place and really get a feel for the setting, a character, 或者 even play with plot ideas. Through rping I have fleshed out- make a character 更多 realistic 或者 3D. Numerous characters in half the time. 你 can place them in numerous settings and think about what they would do. 你 can literally be inside your character's head do what 你 think they might would do, say what they might would say. Learn a outcome you've never figured before.
Rping allows 你 to persue things with your character like a senario. Say there is a zombie attack would your character be 更多 likely to stay where they are 或者 help. Would they argue with everyone 或者 get something done. This one character I have was designed for the 30's. He was a basic cop with a German Shepard dog who 迷失 his parents when he was 12. After rping with him in the present day, the 1850's and the future in a variety of scenarios. A cop, a former Federal Marshal till a zombie attack, a soldier, a retired special forces officer teaching. From those experiences I have picked the best traits I feel to stay consistent with him. One he's either a cop 或者 a man of the military 或者 both. Two he 迷失 his family when he was 12 though now he 迷失 his parents and four siblings. Three he has a trusty German Shepard dog that found him. I have several others I'll mention later on.
If 你 have something basic like I listed above a cop and his German Sheperd for example 或者 just a teenage boy. 你 can come up with a past and a since of who they are. Like I'll use my cop. Undercover Detective Edward Dillinger and his dog.
After just a few months of rping him. I now have for character traits and general knowledge that makes him human is.
Edward has a temper and has been known to 冲床 a person 或者 a 墙 if he gets in a bad enough arguement. Attack him 或者 his dog with words 或者 physically it equals a fight. Due to his ruff childhood and career. Having had 迷失 his parents and four siblings as well as his best friend/partner. He has PTSD- Post Tramatic Stress Disorder and has been known to drink heavily. His dog being one of the only ones that can calm him down. He's a hero, the type that would take a bullet for a complete stranger and he has bad survivors guilt morphed into the PTSD.
See how much I have there in so little time... Another character I have named Jack Rains all I had was the name and that he was in the 17-18 range. Just after a few hours of rping I established. He's a jokester he loves to wise crack and be sarcastic and pick on his elder friend Boris Chaney. He had a little sister-Lizzy and a mother. He can be a bit clumsy at times and he doesn't always know when to shut up. Also I learned that he's terrified of snakes and was in a 刀 fight in high school where he was the only one without a knife.

What can 你 learn from your characters?

A character I long had established named Fang. I learned even 更多 from. He has a temper but, he'll stand up for what he believes in. He's only had his spirits partially broken in his life time and he payed weapon x back for it in the end. He was born in 1912 and is as of 2013 101 years old though he still looks like he's around 14-16 range. His claws had a rare metal bonded to the bone cells themselves and I've managed to figure out how long it might would take for hm to heal. His memory was erased in the mid to late 60s. He is a chimera. If his wings get wet he sinks and his healing ability functions off of protein. He also has PTSD and is a natural born instigator. Only if 你 start with him of course unless your a prison guard.

Originally all I had was his name was Fang and he was a mutant born during WWII in a secret government test facility and he went and joined the X-Men years later in the future. Wolverine was his father 由 DNA. His memory was erased and he had adamantium claws, wings and a healing ability.

Rping helps:

-character development as I stated and explained above
-creating a world. I have this battle academy that went from your basic school that allows weapons to... A school with secret passageways, that exists on a island made up of multiple terrains. That has a gymnasium that can creat any senario.
-research. 你 can do research as 你 go and ask others if they know for instance. I had a doctor in the 1850s and a character was drowning. Well CPR hadn't been officially invented yet. I found out about the Sylvester method that was used. My 老友记 didn't realize it and I taught them something new. Once I had a character that could heal. A friend helped me make it 更多 realistic like it can take between a 小时 and a week for major injuries but only 秒 for scratches and instant for bruises.
-gadgets. 你 can come up with your character's choice weapon and find how useful it would be to them in a somewhat realistic way. For example in a steampunk one my character uses a Winchester but also a bow and 《绿箭侠》 that folds up. Another example is my character has found during a zombie apocalypse arrows are better than bullets cause it's harder to run out of them and it isn't hard to make them. One of my friend's weapon of choice is a shovel.

There is always something to improve on so why not try rping it's easy and fun and 你 don't have to do a video game to do it. All 你 need is a 论坛 thread, an idea, a character and at least one other person to 加入 you. Being a Rper for 2 years now I can say its one of my 最喜爱的 things and it could easily become your favorite.

I think I'll take some time to explain some basic terms and rules first though before 你 stop 阅读 this article.
First of all ask to 加入 unless it hasn't already started.
Don't spam it till 你 get an answer sometimes Rpers rp while the one that started it is offline and they will get back to you. Just check often.

-No meta gaming 或者 god modding, which basically means don't over power anything and don't use information that your character would otherwise not know.
-no bunnying 或者 no bunnying without permission, means say 你 and a person are talking say in Camelot. They aren't online and 你 want to talk to someone in say Glasgow. 你 can't say the person went with 你 unless 你 got permission from the person.
-no one liners, pretty basic means make your response 更多 than one line and make it descriptive. For example:

Bad idea. Joe walked up to the castle.
Good idea. Joe walked down the winding path to the castle. He looked up at it. The walls were ominous black eroded stone. It looked like a place Dracula would get along well in. Joe swallowed and prayed that Dracula didn't live there.
-OOC, Out of Character, I means like talking person to person versus character to character many use either (()), [],() 或者 some other version of those to explain they are Talking out of character. I prefer (()).
-bump, means moving the thread up in the recents so 你 don't have to 搜索 for it. Also it can be used to bring something to mind.
-abide 由 other thread creators rules
-if there is a character sheet fill it out before 你 jump in it lets them know about the character your using 你 usually can modify the sheet and add a field 或者 remove it though the fields in the original sheet generally is required
Ex: Name:
Age:
Personality:
Appearance:
Backstory:
Other:
-Open rp, means anyone can 加入 at anytime
-closed 或者 private rp, can't 加入 或者 你 have to ask to join
-be nice to others and don't take the stuff seriously. Don't get in a fight fight and take it hard 或者 as a personal attack. It's just character to character fighting
-cursing, most prefer little to none
-sex, usually prefer fades to black 或者 going to messenger to do it then return back to the thread
-read the entire first post before joining. Each rp has a different plot and style 你 may not want to 加入 the first one 你 click on only ones like the 'Coffee house' are threads where any character can join. I don't always 加入 a rp I look at based on what the first post says. For instance there was one that was one called Camp Half-blood it was Demi-god based and I don't really care much about Demi-gods so I chose not to join.
-join as many as 你 can handle 你 need to 加入 enough 你 can keep up with and still get real life tasks done, sleep's important too
-Reality always comes first
-do your homework. 你 want a schizophrenic character? Research it. People get offended when 你 use a movie portrayal.
-don't make your character unbeatable, in other words make them human
-make your responses open ended. For example
Good idea:Fang threw a 冲床 at Victor.
Bad idea:Fang threw a 冲床 at Victor breaking his nose.
-NPC, non personal character, means they are just there usually not referred to 由 name
Ex: the guard walked up to Fang and ordered"move!"

I pull into the parking lot of the country council men office and get out. Hmm what should I do with Elliot? I can't leave him in the car he'll die of heat. I could leave the air on. Nah I'll just put him behind stage when I talk to the councilmen.
I pull out Elliot and put him over my shoulder. Everybody is strong in the future.
Elliot murmurs something like "Oh I 爱情 你 too Starr!"
Aww how sweet. I take out duct tape and tape his mouth shut. Ahh that's much better
I carry Elliot towards the building and when I get inside I don't see Whitney. Hmm that's strange she works here shouldn't...

Tick, tick, tick
That sound, constant in my head,
A sound that haunts every mind,
A sound that brings fear,
A clock,
Ticking the 秒 of your life away,
Making life shorter and shorter with every tick,
Drawing death nearer and nearer,
But 你 should not live in fear,
For life is too short for such a thing,
Some people waste these precious seconds,
Others treasure them, making sure that no tick is wasted,
The clock ticks on,
But as this sound is registered,
What do 你 do?
Tick, tick, tick
Three 更多 seconds, gone, like that,
Did 你 use them well?
Live life,
For life is too short to spend these 秒 in hell.
His Melody
To quiet the tears
She sings him to sleep
When the morning has dawned
He can’t be roused from a rest so deep

She sings him to sleep
Night after night
And when he does not awaken
Her will to go on grows slight

She sits and waits while he’s away
She remembers his laugh and smile
Oh what a joy to see his joy
She lifts up a prayer “May I see him in a short while?”

She sits at the window and waits
The sun sets slowly behind the 爬坡道, 小山
The others say hello but she doesn’t hear
She is waiting to make the tears still

The time has come she cannot wait
She sets out to see her boy
To stop the tears
To bring him joy

But the tears she stills are not his
They fall from her eyes
She sings his lullaby again tonight
As she kisses the stone and her son good bye

~Chapter #1~

Marie and I 爱情 to adventure. However this time we went overboard. I think this was our LAST adventure."Are we there yet!" Marie 说 impatiently. "Yep its right here!" I 说 exited. "You wanna um... walk in fist Marzia?" Marie asked. "Sure!" I 说 starting to rethink this whole abandon house thing. I walked in slowly and held the door open for Marie. "Are 你 sure 你 wanna do this?" Marie said. "Of course, we will. Trust me" I 说 trying to convince Marie not to leave. "Okay i'll look for 食物 and 你 look for beds and stuff if we stay over night."...

Dear record of my misfortune I was correct. Today I walked into class and saw a huge pile of letters on my desk. When I opened them I realized that it was hate mail. It was so stupid, people were getting angry at me for what I did to Jessica when it was her fault! They were saying things like : Die 情绪硬核 婊子, 子 die, bitchy whore. That last 评论 doesn't even apply to me! I haven't even had my first 吻乐队(Kiss) and they are saying this stuff to me! There was one letter that was bot mean even though I don't know who sent it. Inside it 说 玫瑰 are red violets are blue I don't now why they hurt you, if 你 want I'll tell them to can it, all because I 爱情 你 Janet. I don't know who wrote 你 爱情 poem rhyme thing but I 爱情 你 too!

The 日 my life became 更多 than reality was when I was seven.
2 months earlier, my mother had passed away due to reasons I never understood. All I knew was she was gone and Dad wouldn't talk about it.
I was sitting at my desk, watching the snow fall out the classroom window. The window started to frost over quickly. I turned back to the teacher, but she was frosting over too. I realized it was my vision frosting over. I rubbed my eyes to stop it, but it only made it worse. So I sat in my 台, 办公桌 and let it take over.
I soon found myself in a field of dandelions and fireflies. I looked around...

Her eyes were 火, 消防 red,
as if they were
lit from anger.

I dont understand
why 你 are
mad at me.

Why 你 shoot
those harsh words
at me.

Aimed like bullets,
piercing my soul.
And It cant heal.

I never can dodge them.
The words hit me,
and I fall back.

My 老友记 ask me:
"What's wrong?"
"Can I help?"

But they cant help.
Because I dont understand,
why 你 are mad.

Why do 你 have to do
what 你 do to me?
Why does it give 你
joy to harm me?
Why?
Why are people bullies?
Why dont my 老友记 take action?
Why cant 你 tell me WHY?

She stopped dead in her tracks. She was startled. Her voice was completely gone. Shockingly, she saw that the hooded silhouette in front of her wasn't her mother; she did not know who it was.
Slowly, as not to alarm the unwanted visitor, she reached out for her ballpoint pen and dug it as deep as she could into the neck of the intruder. The mess was horrific, blood all over her face as well as his clothes, but Emily stayed strong. She clumsily tumbled off her 床, 床上 and ran as fast as she could downstairs to the phone.
She hastily pressed any buttons she could until she'd finally keyed in the number...

"Cosette!" Echo shouted. We ran over to each other, and hugged. She nearly squeezed the life out of me, but I didn't care; I'd missed her so much.

"Echo! I'm so glad to see you!"

"Ahem," a voice said. Echo smiled and rolled her eyes, and took a step back. Asher smiled as he hugged me, and kissed my cheek. I laid my head on his chest.

"I missed 你 too," I told him. He chuckled.

"Come on!" Echo 说 impatiently. "Let's go do something! Anything! I just don't want to deal with this mushy-teen-love crap." Asher and I rolled our eyes, but smiled. I told Grandma we were going to hang out.

I admit that I kind of slipped into a depression. I wasn't sure what to think about anything. I started to feel like I couldn't trust anyone. I wanted so bad to drink, and forget for at least a little while, but I couldn't when someone was always home.

That was the only bad thing about not being with Drew anymore; I rarely go the chance to drink. I started going into withdrawal as well. I couldn't keep control of my emotions, I felt like I was going insane sometimes. I had 更多 stress related seizures, 更多 than I usually do while on medication. I've had a lot of headaches, I've been sweating...

Streetlamps, houses, gates, remotes, books, CDs and televisions. Brothers. Pairs. Each has a twin. In this chaotic place of materials the world has come to be, everything has a brother. But brothers are family. And family is connected somehow; if not 由 blood, then 由 what?

Energy.

Look hard. At everything that has a brother. A line of energy casts a connection between the two. The energy, with its harsh glares and cold looks creates the strongest and most complex bonds. Strong because of their brotherhood. Complex because of its invisibility. For there is power in invisibility. Cold, cruel power. The power to be a persecutor with no chance of being a victim. The power to twist and squeeze but not feel the wrenching pain of your twists.

Now, 你 ask, what is left? Cruel, invisible energy. For a cruel, invisible world.

Ike, Roy, and Sheeda. I screetched. Ike covered my mouth. "SHUT UP!!!" He whispered. Roy chuckled. Sheeda followed my hand. So did Ike and Roy. I tried to stand up, but my head hit the table. I rubbed the back of my head and crawled out from underneith it. I slowly slid my hand across the 墙 to 搜索 for the power switch. "Whoever this is, 你 are very cute!!!!" she 说 feeling around me to reconize...

This is something I'm working on.. It's the first long piece I've attempted. People often told me I'm too good at imagery and 描述 to write anything short. Perhaps I use too much imagery? I'm curious about what 你 guys think.

I already know it's a bit shakey at some parts. I still need to do some revising. I revise every time I finish 阅读 a book. I feel each book teaches me 更多 and 更多 about writing.
