Ron's main quality is loyalty. He is Harry's true friend, in a way hermione cant be. She's very close obviously, but theres something missing that Ron has. Just look at the time where Ron left. Harry and Hermione barely talked. Sure you could use the fact that Ron left as a reason that he's not as loyal but he left because of the hocrux and he said that he realized right away, once it was off, that it was a mistake and he wanted desperately to go back but he ran into a few problems. Harry and Ron are the definition of best friends.
