Season 1
Serena 面包车, 范 der Woodsen unexpectedly returns to New York from her mysterious absence to a boarding school in Connecticut. She is initially unwelcome 由 her best friend Blair Waldorf, who was perplexed 由 the lack of contact during Serena's absence, and has assumed the position as 皇后乐队 bee of the Constance Billard junior class. Having discovered that her longtime boyfriend Nate Archibald slept with Serena a 年 before, Blair is unwilling to continue their friendship. Serena then meets the outsider Dan Humphrey and begins a relationship with him. At the same time Dan's father Rufus and Serena's mother Lily rekindle their past relationship. Because of Blair's wrongful public defamation of Serena and the realization that Eric 面包车, 范 der Woodsen had attempted suicide and was receiving treatment, Serena and Blair mend their friendship.
While Dan is adamant about keeping a distance from the upper east side, his sister Jenny desperately attempts to fit in, performing menial tasks in order to be a part of high society. Despite Blair's attempts to rectify and mend her relationship with Nate, it slowly begins to fail. When their relationship ends, Blair sleeps with Chuck Bass, a womanizer and Nate's best friend. Chuck eventually develops feelings for Blair and resolves to prevent her from reviving her relationship with Nate 由 threatening to tell him of their shared intimacy. Throughout the year, Serena and Dan's relationship is continually tested 由 the elite class and the return of his best friend Vanessa Abrams. Yet, despite such problematic situations, their relationship grows stronger. During a date, Serena tells Dan that Blair has slept with Chuck and Nate within the same week because of a pregnancy scare that Blair and Jenny overhears this. Her desire to become a part of the upper east side coupled with her hatred of Blair's belittlement compels her to tell Nate of Blair's transgressions.
Nate then publicly confronts Chuck while the entire school watches, destroying Blair's reputation as being perfect and 'dethroning' her as the 皇后乐队 bee. In Blair's absence, Jenny begins to ascend the ranks at Constance Billard but is later defaced 由 Blair through Gossip Girl. The closing of junior 年 is accompanied 由 Serena and Dan's relationship beginning to erode. Georgina Sparks returns to the upper east side, wanting her and Serena to restart their friendship. Serena is unwilling to and Georgina meets Dan under the alias of Sarah. She then befriends Dan and Vanessa, later threatening to reveal Serena's sordid past. Although initially resistant; Serena reveals to Blair, Chuck, Nate and later Dan that she left New York because her involvement in the death of a drug dealer and the truth about Georgina Sparks. While they attempt to fix their relationship, Dan is unable to cope with the lies and class differences that separate him from Serena; they break up at the 低音 wedding. Blair and Chuck rectify their broken relationship at the 低音 wedding but later fails because of he is unwilling to commit himself to Blair.

As the summer vacation comes to a close, Blair Waldorf arrives in the Hamptons with James (guest 星, 星级 Patrick Heusinger). Blair is interested in his title. In an attempt to salvage his relationship with Blair, Chuck resolves to end her relationship with Marcus but is unsuccessful. Throughout the summer, Serena and Nate lead a fake relationship in order for him to continue an affair with Catherine Mason (guest 星, 星级 Mädchen Amick), a married woman. Nate's affair with Catherine impedes on his relationship with Vanessa, who later discovers that Catherine and Marcus have been intimate. She uses this information to get Nate out of his deal with Catherine, but ends up making things worse for him, resulting in the ending of their relationship. Meanwhile, Blair and Chuck feud over saying those three little words. They attempt to seduce and destroy Vanessa because she is getting on Blair's nerves, however, the night ends with a series of events that lead to Chuck telling Blair he has chased her long enough and that she must now chase him. Blair attempts to seduce Chuck with the help of Dan, but the attempts prove unsuccessful and the pair are once again faced with the dilemma of saying those three little words. Dan finds out what Chuck and Blair did to Vanessa and gives Blair bad advice, resulting in her decision not to tell Chuck that she loves him. Later, Chuck and Blair decide to wait for the future to be together.
Dan decides to try something out of his comfort-zone so he can write a story, and ends up going to Chuck for help. While Chuck educates him on the "ways of Chuck Bass", Dan defends Chuck and they both go to jail, where Chuck tells Dan how his mother died giving birth to him and how his father hates him for it. He takes this back when he finds out that Dan was using him to write a story. Dan writes the story anyway, but sends it to Chuck's father Bart so he can read it and know how his son feels. This results in a bonding between Chuck and his father. Dan finds out that Nate is living in his seized apartment and invites him to live with his family. Meanwhile, Jenny ends up in an internship for Blair's mother, Eleanor Waldorf. However, Eleanor ends up using Jenny and not crediting her for all of her hard work. Agnes, a model for Eleanor, sees this and tells Jenny to quit, which she does, and the two start hanging out as Agnes introduces her to a new crowd of bad influences. Nate, 表演 like an older brother, comes and saves Jenny from this bad situation and the two kiss, starting an erratic relationship. Jenny and Agnes host a guerrila fashion show, launching Jenny's fashion career. Jenny moves out of the loft and moves in with Agnes. However, when the two cannot agree over business arrangements for Jenny's line, Jenny tries to go out on her own without Agnes. Agnes finds out about this and flips out, resulting in Jenny moving back to the loft. Jenny wants to be emancipated from her guardians, but Lily reunites her and her father over Thanksgiving.
Serena meets an old acquaintance of hers, Aaron Rose (guest 星, 星级 John Patrick Amedori), and Eleanor meets Aaron's father, Cyrus, and they begin to date. Vanessa and Jenny fight over who is going to be with Nate. Jenny plots against Vanessa and embarrasses her at the ball, resulting in Nate siding with Vanessa because of Jenny's immaturity. Vanessa and Nate start a relationship. Frustrated with Bart, Lily and Rufus tell each other at the ball that they still have feelings for each other. Chuck overhears and calls his father, telling him to come immediately to the dance. Bart's limousine is involved in an accident on the way, and he dies. Cyrus proposes to Eleanor, and she accepts, and Aaron and Serena break up.
Lily's mother reveals that Lily and Rufus had a child, although Rufus does not know. Rufus and Lily go off together on a 搜索 for their son, and Rufus tells Dan about his sibling, but asks him to let Lily tell Serena when she finds it best, and Dan and Serena 日期 once again. Rufus and Lily meet with the adoptive parents of their son, who lie and inform them that he is dead. Serena learns that she and Dan share a sibling via Gossip Girl.
Chuck's uncle Jack 低音 (guest 星, 星级 Desmond Harrington) returns and tells Blair he will now take care of Chuck, much to Blair's annoyance. Chuck inherits his father's fortune as well as 51% share of 低音 Industries. The 低音 Industries chair people witness Chuck in his father's office with a group of prostitutes, and give the company to Jack. Lily is very much unhappy when she hears about Jack Bass's plans for 低音 Industries. She hires a lawyer and convinces Chuck to sign papers to make her his legal guardian instead. Jack finds out and is furious, he locks Lily in the powder room at the Opera, kisses her and tries to rape her, Chuck breaks in in time to prevent this. Later on, Chuck decides that he wants to rejoin Lily's family making her the owner of 低音 Industries.
Dan and Serena are accepted to Yale, but Blair is wait-listed. Serena learns that if she turns down Yale, Blair will be accepted. Blair, unaware Serena has been accepted to Yale, plots revenge on a new, young teacher, Ms. Carr, who had recently 给 her a B. When Serena learns this, she reveals to Blair that she has passed on Yale, and that Blair will be accepted. Blair invites the teacher, Ms Carr, to the opera as a prank. Blair learns that Ms Carr has informed the headmistress of the prank. The headmistress informs Blair her acceptance to Yale is suspended, and she now has detention. Blair declares war on Ms. Carr. Blair sends a rumor to Gossip girl saying that Dan and Ms. Carr are in a relationship. Serena becomes suspicious. Blair is discovered to be the rumor's creator, when Nelly confesses to the headmistress, and Blair is expelled.
Serena sees Dan and Ms. Carr in a coffee 商店 together, and sees Dan intimately comforting Ms. Carr. Serena captures a 照片 where it is displayed at a PTA meeting, and Ms. Carr is fired and Blair is readmitted to Constance Billard. Dan defends himself, but he and Serena break up. Serena admits to Ms. Carr that she was the one to take the photo. Dan later visits Ms. Carr, where the two 吻乐队（Kiss） and have sex. Meanwhile, the headmistress decides to give Ms. Carr her job back, afraid of negative publicity. Reinstated to her job, however, Ms. Carr decides to take revenge on Blair and calls Yale, telling them she had been 给 detention for hazing a teacher. Blair's acceptance to Yale is rescinded and 给 to Nelly instead. Blair tries to find out who called Yale. In the meantime, Dan and Ms. Carr have been carrying on their affair, and have sex in the costume room. But Dan discovers that it was Ms. Carr who ratted Blair out to Yale, and ends things with her, telling Blair that it was Ms. Carr who called Yale. Blair tells Ms. Carr that her punishment will just be to 'live with it'. Ms. Carr leaves a note for Dan telling him she's returning to Iowa.
Chuck is mistakenly invited to a Skull and 识骨寻踪 society meeting 由 a mistress in place of his father. He becomes obsessed with Elle, the woman who met him there, and attempts to help her flee the country when she tells him she's in trouble. But he finds out that she was just using his money for an escape route, and when she leaves, Chuck goes to Blair's to wait for her there. Meanwhile, Blair sits in a bar drinking alone. Carter Baizen sits 下一个 to her and offers to buy her a drink, putting his hand on her knee.
Blair is devastated about what has happened to her life, so she goes to Carter Baizen for help. However, Chuck and Blair realise Carter is encouraging the worst of her 由 letting her loose and changing her to a new Blair. They clear him out, but Blair only gets worse. Vanessa urges Nate to reconnect with his family, despite the fact that they weren't there during his father's financial trouble. At the party, Blair goes off the deep end, insulting everyone she meets, getting drunk, and seducing Chuck to no avail, as he says that this isn't the Blair he wants. Finally, everything hits her and she is devastated. Nate finds her crying and comforts her, reminding her that she is Blair Waldorf, someone who doesn't let a mishap get in the way of what she wants. When Nate accepts an internship provided 由 his grandfather instead of going on a summer vacation with Vanessa, she walks out on the party, leaving their relationship in the air.
