How do i 删除 messages?

I 删除 the messages in my 收件箱 becouse i don't like backlog. But the messages I 删除 go into the trash and it's not deleting them, they just stay there and it's getting bigger. Is they a way to 删除 the messages compltely 或者 is there a waiting peroid then there deleted, like hotmail?
