Doesn’t bother me. It works for the story they told.

I don't really mind whether she's a princess or not.

I tend to prefer Rapunzel when she wasn't exactly royalty. The original Rapunzel had more faith, and was presented as being less of a easy social butterfly. The original tale presented her as a more quiet and thoughtful soul, who just wanted someone to talk to, and to share her company.

I guess, this is why I also didn't like Frozen, where I would have definitely preferred The Snow Queen to be who she was when she was the antagonist of the story ( not an identity crisis plotline that has no true villain and sucks all the interest out of the proceedings).

When Disney has revamped things, they've missed the mark for me a lot, lately.

I think it was nice that they made her a princess. The Barbie Rapunzel was also made a princess, so I guess I got used to this story being switched up for different versions.

@wavesurf - I completely agree with your points. Disney's latest heroines have all been sociable, energetic, and gregarious which is fine and all but it seems to demonize being quiet and shy which are looked down upon so much in today's society. I wish we had a few leading ladies who are more introverted to balance things out and frankly Rapunzel started this latest trend of the awkward, clumsy, but lovable heroine since her template has been used by all her predecessors (Anna, Judy, Honey Lemon, Moana, etc.)

I'm not a fan of how Disney has been revamping their stories lately either.

Hmm I guess I like both. Rapunzel has never been my favorite fairytale though.
