I know this is a controversial topic but to make it clear, I'm not saying Disney is racist but actually how they will always inevitably get accused of racism. And with the Princess and the Frog, it's obvious why it was the easiest target.

The option of Tiana having to be this independent woman is here because... they do the complete opposite of reinforcing the stereotype of black people being slugs. The movie constantly reminds us of how hardworking she is and it's so down onto other people's throats that it almost feels racist even if that wasn't their intentions at all. If that made sense.

Anyway I guess this option because whether Naveen would have been black or non-black, there would still be complaints. Definitely more so if he was non-black IMO.

If Naveen had been white, people would've bitched and moaned about it. "Our black princess isn't good enough to have a black prince of her own? Racist! White men with POC women couples support colonization! Racist!"

Otoh, if he had been black, other people would've also bitched about it. "Oh my god Disney supports segregation by having the black princess fall in love within her race! Racist!"

I kinda wish she'd spend more time as a human.

I once saw this really weird accusation in an academic paper that PATF is racist because Tiana is basically a "mammy" character who serves people and that Charlotte and her father aren't good, but patronizing toward Tiana by not giving her the money until she cooks for them... i was like wtffff.

Yeah, I don't think Tia would accept the money just like that anyway. She accepted when Lottie overpaid her but that involved work.
