As much as I would love to see what Walt would think of Mulan, he was a romantic and Mulan is most definitely not a romantic film. He probably wouldn't like that Mulan subverted her culture's traditions or that the romance takes a back seat in the film.

As I said, Walt would most likely not get half of the jokes, and I think he would dislike that the movie is not as timeless as the others. Keeping it timeless was always very important for Walt Disney.

I actually think that Disney would like the lack of romance in Mulan...he was all for trying out new approaches, and by far not all movies he made have romances.

I like this movie, but I think Walt wouldn't appreciate it. It isn't very classic or romantic.

I'm not sure if he was such a romantic tbh. There are quite a few films of his that lack romance (Alice, Dumbo).

I still don't think he would care much for Mulan though. He'd probably not get into the cultural aspect of the film.

He wouldn't get the jokes and he would have liked it, but maybe he would want it to be more timeless and classic than it is, with all its pop-culture references.

I actually wonder were the idea comes from that Walt Disney was particular set on romance. After all, the movies he was particular invested in - Fantasia, Jungle Book, 20.000 miles under the sea, Mary Poppins - are not about romances. Snow White happens to have one because the source text has one, but a lot of early movies - Pinocchio, Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland - don't have romance. The need to work in romance in every movie is something which was established only after Walt Disney concentrated more on his "other projects"...and the ones he showed interest in towards the end, like Winnie the Pooh, doesn't have romance either.

This one is a very great Disney movie but definitely not a classic Princess story/fairy tale.

I don't want to show him this. The plot is as convoluted as Alice In Wonderland, which is an okay movie, btw, but was not a major box-office draw. Put simply, this movie suffers from Tiana's no-fun attitude. Tiana's uneasiness about everything except working hard and her restaurant --- make everything else take a back seat. Instead of an ensemble performance, this ends up being the Tiana show. There's very little to her character, and she's boring.

Too thrown together. Me and Walt wouldn't care for this I think. He would appreciate the magic

I don't think he would care about whether it was a classic fairytale since the majority of stories he made were original.
