It's always maleficinent or Ursula that get all the attention. Shan Yu was the first disney villain I noticed as a legend. I am not going to explain, it will take way too long. Here is a link to an article someone made about Shan Yu being amazing. Please read so you can understand my points.

I do object with some of his points but he basically said everything I felt about Shan Yu. Whenever there is a list of favorite disney villains, everyone automatically goes to maleficinent and Ursula and shan yu is rarley mentioned. No offense, but a lot of the disney villains were fools like capital hook. For some reason, people prefer the clowns over people like Shan Yu which to me does not make sense. That is my opinion on Shan Yu. If you did not read the article please read it.

He's awesome and so terrifying. He's definitely one of the best Disney villains IMO.

I don't know, maybe it's sort of a female thing, seeing as most of the people I've found who've said he was unmemorable were guys and most of the people I've found who point out THE LITTLE GIRL were women

I really like his character as he is unseen a lot during the film which adds mystery to not knowing when he'll show up next! Plus I adore his design

He is different from the other Disney Villains - he is less a character and more a symbol for war. But different is not really bad. (Maleficent is better, though).

Swanpride, I agree with everything except the part about maleficent.

I strongly dissagree and am making a article soon about how she is overrated. But to say it shortly, Shan Yu had a strong purpose ad took action, while Maleficient was stupid and for 16 years did nothing but rely on her sidekicks to pinpoint her location. She had a dumb reason for being a villain and everyone keeps on thinking that being evil for a reason that is unfair all of a sudden makes her amazing when it is really proving how lame her goals and motives is. A villains purpose is his goal, people keep on saying the same things. " Ooh, she's so evil. She cursed a girl for no reason". Am I the only person who thinks Maleficent is overrated and has nothing but power?

But I'll leave my arguments for another day. Anyway, glad your supporting my Shan Yu is awesome cause! Hehe!

No you're not the only one who thinks that about Maleficent. That's why I don't think she's overrated.

^^ If cursing a baby girl for no reason isn't evil, regardless of motive, then I don't know what it is. And yes I do think having no motive makes Maleficent awesome, she is evil for the sake of being evil, making her a unique character. A villain doesn't always need a motive, every movie is different; the fact that she has none and is remembered and frequently praised so many years later proves how good a villain she is. Oh and what is wrong with having "nothing but power"? Btw, Maleficent isn't my favourite villain and yes I do think she's slightly overrated (in fact, Shan Yu is a much better villain to me) but she's still cool IMO.

And do you like ANYTHING in the classic Princess movies? I always see you criticize the 3 classics.

I don't see him being mentioned by fans much and that's probably because of his mysterious personality. I actually like Shan Yu. I think he's a pretty cool villain and I also think that article has very good points.

I don't agree Mongoose09 but it's your opinion. The only thing I want to say is that a villain has to have more than power, they need intelligence, bravery, and have to have a good motive. That is what I look for in a villain.

But I'm glad you agree Shan Yu is underrated.

Of course, he isn't overrated but he isn't that underrated. I think he is properly rated or slightly underrated.
