What is the white 领, 衣领 on Snow White's dress?

I am curious as to the white thing that is on Snow White's dress? I understand it is sort of a 领, 衣领 type thing, but was wondering if there was any background 或者 history to types of dresses like this. Someone once suggested that this could have been her "riding dress"??? Just curious as to what the story of it is??
