O Tempora o Mores
Oh the times, oh the customs
This 文章 is an appeal to all Twilight 粉丝 out there, I invite 你 all to think over your good and bad actions here on 潮流粉丝俱乐部 and contemplate them.
I have seen and compared examples of the appearances of the fandoms Harry Potter and respectively Twilight when criticism appear in each other’s sites on 潮流粉丝俱乐部 and I am astounded 由 the comparatively aggressive tone the Twilight 粉丝 carried when they respond to the 说 criticism.
Compare the responses of: link
And: link ;
Notes are to be made that both internet addresses were found 由 searching for “Harry Potter sucks” and “Twilight sucks”. I will let 你 draw your own conclusions while bearing in mind that these results are not representative for either fandom.
I recently came over this: link
while browsing 潮流粉丝俱乐部 and was truly shocked and much saddened to find so many aggressive and outright illegal threats being made upon the originator of this question. Why do 粉丝 of Twilight feel like they have to defend their fandom so ferociously? Why do they impose threats of death and destruction upon people who dislike their fandom? To me this is comparable to religious fanatism who spawns equally hostile threats.
Compare the following partial 语录 and quotes, preserved in their original spelling:
“Satan worshipping scum…Please die and go to hell…I hope 你 get a painful disease like rectal cancer and die a slow painful death.” – Cited partially and out of context from “The God Delusion”, pp 243, Richard Dawkins.
“We will not go quietly away. If in the future that requires violence just remember 你 brought it on. My 步枪 is loaded.” - Cited out of context from “The God Delusion”, pp 244, Richard Dawkins.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!! I COULD SHOOT U!!!! GET UR UGLY MEAN OLD SELF AAAAAWWWWWAAAAAAAAAY FROM THIS FANSITE RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW!!!!” – Cited from link ; the commentary of the question, stephmfan215.
“stephmfan215 Ill help u kill here thats stupid to come on here if u dont like the saga now dont leave any 更多 问题 and GET OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!” – Cited from same 来源 as the 前一个 one, twimenfan.
“u r stupid for being n the twilight 粉丝 club so get out
I HOPE U ROT IN HELL AFTER ALL OF THEE PEOPLE KILL U AND I ALSO HOPE TAT U GET EATEN BUY NEWBORNS U BUM FACE” - Cited from link ; the commentary of the question, twiliholic17.
Now I would think that the intention of those 语录 are mutually inseparable, death and destruction. Agree 或者 disagree?
Why be so hostile? Twilight fans? In comparison the worst 评论 to link is “YOU.NEED.ENGLISH.LESSONS.” - Addicted2TV.
Then isn’t there a great and dishonourable discrepancy in regards of civility when one compares Twilight and Harry Potter fans? At least when 你 look at the 链接 provided?
What does one make of the frequent fallacious arguments made in favour of Twilight? The good looking Edward and Jacob are frequently inferred 由 粉丝 who believe this is a winning argument against criticism. Well, when one thinks through it properly, it’s not a winning argument, it’s fallacious.
What is a fallacious argument? Well, 牛津, 牛津大学 English Dictionary Online defines Fallacy as:
noun (plural fallacies)
• a mistaken belief, especially one based on unsound arguments: the notion that the camera never lies is a fallacy
• Logic a failure in reasoning which renders an argument invalid
• [mass noun] faulty reasoning: the potential for fallacy which lies behind the notion of self-esteem
I would like to point out definition two: Logic a failure in reasoning which renders an argument invalid.
Yes, your argument is invalid, not applicable, a failure in reasoning. And as such can be discounted from the discussion.
What is the fallacious part of the argument “Edward is good looking; therefore Twilight is a good book.”? Well, it is an non sequitur fallacy, the statement/conclusion is not supported 由 the argument; and therefore it is unsound. For who would believe that a statement is valid when it is unsupported 由 the argument?
由 the way: The 牛津, 牛津大学 English Dictionary Online defines Non Sequitur as:
• A conclusion 或者 statement that does not logically follow from the 前一个 argument 或者 statement.
Summa Summarum: Dear Rabid Twilight fans, we are happily tired of being threatened and bothered 由 your fallacious statements. “Quousque tandem abutere, amici Twilightiae, patientia nostra? For how much more, Twilight fans, will 你 abuse our patience?” Then can we not coexist in civility? Please?
And to the civil Twilight fans, we are very much grateful for your existence and hopefully 你 will continue do the good work, because we mutually know that respect is two-ways.
