Actually, they never 说 what is the first one. In the episode, they pointed out who's before what, but never actually confirmed what was first, though, it probably was. Jut like how they never confirmed if Jet died 或者 not.
They said, "Look! They're lined up in a pattern! Air, Water, Earth, and Fire." "That's the 阿凡达 Cycle." and numerous times they mentioned that Air was the beginning of the cycle. Although, I'm bot one to pick a figh. So I'm just going to say that you're right an 移动 on.
There have been rumours...YES, RUMOURS....that Book 2: Spirits will touch the topic of the first 阿凡达 and details on the Spirit World. .....I obviously can't say for sure, but that's all the info I recieved. :P
Nobosy really knows who the first 阿凡达 ever but we may have seen he 或者 she before like in season one the southern air temple 或者 season 2 the last episode when aang was struck 由 lightning it shows all the past avatars dissapearing 或者 in korra when she finally connected with her spiritual side it showed all the avatars also the last episode of that season.

The first Avatar's name is Wan. He's from before the tribes were established. In his time people lived on the back's of Giant Lion Turtles. He lived on the back of one that could give the gift of fire.
