Convo Piece: The Disir

EPaws Visual is stunning but they intrigue. Short inadequate POV below: Me likey. Now, are they evil or not? Was talking to one of my friends last night and she made a most excellent point. True, no matter what Arthur chose he was condemned. Bit of a trick question actually. Was that fair? No. See, like Uther, they want to impose their will of RULE…how is that any different? Not really. Again, they would in turn be taking free will out of the equation. So my vote is, they are a subsection of the magical kind, just like REGULAR humanity, some are good and some are evil…they are already dead anyway. Count me in that they are EVIL…and they too will suffer FATE’s Hand.

Lucerne28 Count me on the they are evil side. I think there is more to this whole disir thing. Maybe, i am giving the show runners too much credit. But I have to believe that there is more to this series then the end game being Arthur's death march. It is just too soon.

kbrand5333 There are 2 things I don't get about them. 1. Why did they not seem to know Merlin? I mentioned this in my review, but I'll mention it again here. Heretofore, every [i]important[/i] magical entity has known Merlin. If the Disir are THE MOST IMPORTANT magical beings, why did they not acknowledge the man who is purported to restore magic to Camelot? It does not make any sense at all. 2. They wanted Arthur to "embrace the old religion" and "bow before the triple goddess." Now, I don't know what Arthur's supposed beliefs are supposed to be, but isn't this a bit much? How about [i]accept[/i] the old religion and be respectful of those who practice it? To me, it sounded like they wanted him to full-on convert. Perhaps I am interpreting it incorrectly, but surely something a little less extreme would have been sufficient. In any case. He was in a no-win situation anyway. Also, by having Mordred live even though Arthur refused their terms just sends a mixed message to our already not-the-sharpest-knife-in-the-drawer king. I'm sure he came back and saw Mordred and thought, "Hey, he's better! Screw the Disir, they're obviously a load of bollocks; I can do whatever the hell I want!"

EPaws The Merls thing is problematic. I must get Rachel to send me what she sent the other day, we were discussing Fate versus Destiny and she made me stop and think. Let me see if I can find it, fond of deleting me. Valid points all. Arthur was totally set up. There was no win in this situation. They are as bad as Uther. Just because they have been unjustly treated as the magical kind, does not make their creed right. In fact, they are much like Uther, just in the opposing direction. We are in agreement ladies.

MOPENDRAGON ^^Wow great comments Kim and I completely agree with the points that you made. I loved the Disir as new characters and I wonder if we will see them again. But to me the Disir are just like Uther...judgmental and completely intolerant and in essence evil.
