Ariel is atrocious. I cannot relate to her as a character. Belle is not my favourite, but she is at least tolerable.

Belle is my most favorite princess!
Ariel is my least favorite princess!

I had problems relating to Belle when I was a kid, because I have not ever considered myself in a place to pass judgement on other people. That is something Belle does which makes me really uncomfortable, while Ariel does not. Ariel actually tries to figure out what other people consider fun, special, sweet, etc. Belle just lumps everyone who does not relate to her in the "poor provincial" category. Belle is definitely stuck-up.

@Anii147: Just because you can't relate to a character does not make the character atrocious. It just doesn't. Ariel is not anymore "horrifyingly wicked" than your top favorite princess is.

She reminds me of my best friend. I love her bookishness and desire for adventure.

I love both of them. Though I have to admit, I am sick and tired of the hate for Ariel.

I relate more to Belle, but neither are faves of mine.
