​Zayn Malik (or just ZAYN capitalised, as he prefers to be called now) released his debut solo album 

​on Friday, which also happens to be the one-year anniversary of his official departure from One Direction. A large majority of the album is about sex, girls, or some combination thereof, but there are a few songs that seem to address his time with 1D and his desire to break out on his own. Below, a look at the three songs that most directly reference Zayn\'s dramatic boy band past. 

This one is most obvious, thanks in large part to its title — there\'s no way Zayn doesn\'t know people will remember that his last album with 1D was called 

​. Whether you interpret this as a song about conflict within the band or Zayn\'s personal conflict with their management, "Befour" is clearly about Zayn\'s decision to leave and go solo. After all, the first line of song is "I\'ve done this before, but not like this."

When Zayn left 1D, he said  it was because he wanted to be a "normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some time out of the spotlight." That may have been true, but in interviews he\'s given since then, he\'s said that he didn\'t like the group\'s music and didn\'t feel like it expressed what he wanted to tell the world about himself. "Would you listen to One Direction, sat at a party with your girl? I wouldn\'t," he told The FADER​in his first big post-1D interview. ​"I don\'t think that\'s an offensive statement to make. That\'s just not who I am. If I was sat at a dinner date with a girl, I would play some cool shit, you know what I mean? I want to make music that I think is cool shit. I don\'t think that\'s too much to ask for."​ 

The lyrics to "Truth" are vague enough that they could be about a failed relationship, but lines like, "This ain\'t my scene, this wasn\'t my dream," do seem relevant in light of his recent statements on the band. For example, he just told Complex​that management wouldn\'t allow him to have a beard and he felt like he didn\'t have any "creative input."

​tracks that could possibly be about 1D, "Lucozade" is the most mysterious. There are lines about pain, healing, and the danger of celebrity, but eventually it does take a turn toward relationship territory — he\'s definitely addressing a girl in the last verse. But if you want to get all conspiracy theorist about it, Niall, Louis and Harry have all been photographed holding the beverage. Interpret at will!
