universe will join Disney, Disney•Pixar and Marvel in

 Starter Pack will be available this fall at a suggested retail price of $64.99, and

 promises to deliver kids and families with a wider breadth of content and variety of gameplay than ever offered from 

set in the timeline of Episodes I-III, the second set during the original trilogy, Episodes IV-VI, and the third available this winter based on 

Play Sets offering distinct gameplay and environments, including a Disney•Pixar Play Set based on the upcoming film

The folks over at Game Informer have revealed that the next Disney Infinity upgrade will be chiefly devoted to STAR WARS.   This news isn’t particularly shocking given that The Powers That be have obliquely teased the possibility on at least a few occasions, and the fact that there’s…you know…this nutty little STAR WARS movie hitting later this year. 

Notably, the next iteration of the figure-based gaming universe is dubbed ‘INFINITY 3.0’ (the recent Marvel issuance was decreed 2.0).  No word (yet) on whether this means a new portal (the nifty device which sucks figure avatars and the information saved on the figures into games) will be deployed.  If so, new starter sets would have to be purchased for roughly $79.  If not, and if the 2.0 portals can be used here…fans will only have to wrangle the SW figures they’re interested in, and whatever playsets (i.e. ‘level’ statues) they want to purchase.  More on this later.

I quite enjoyed INFINITY 2.0 - found it to be a smart an affectionate celebration of all things Marvel, its figures to be fun and well crafted, and the game itself it be a wisely realized upgrade which learned from the shortcomings of the title’s intorductory iteration.  If that smart learning curve continues, this new STAR WARS stuff could be a helluva lot of un indeed.
