Never in a million years would I have thought I would warm to Forks. The rain and the cold didn’t bother me anymore, but maybe that was because Jacob was always unseasonably warm.
It’s been two months since I first arrived here, and I was settling down quite well. I had made a couple of new 老友记 in school; Jessica, Mike, Eric, Tyler and Angela were becoming quite good 老友记 at this point. Although I got the impression that Mike and Eric wanted a little bit more. That didn’t bother me though, I already had a boyfriend. Ever since that first 日 Jacob and I had been inseparable. Charlie and Billy, Jacob’s father seemed to approve of the pairing. But that wasn’t the reason I was so happy here. It mainly had to do with Jake. He was like my own personal sun, he always lit up my day.
I no longer dreaded going to school either. It seemed like I actually fit in here.
This particular morning started off as usual. Jacob arrived at me house, although how he got there I wasn’t sure, and we drove to school. I immediately noticed the difference in the atmosphere when I pulled in to park. It reminded me slightly of the first 日 I came here. I noticed Jessica talking in whispers to Lauren, a girl who I never really hit it off with.
“Jessica!” I shouted walking over to her. “What’s going on?”
“New kids,” she answered motioning to the shiny silver Volvo on the other side of the lot. It was far nicer than any of the other cars here.
Jacob caught up to us, his face stressed.
“Hey 你 hear about the new kids?” I asked him. I was actually slightly relieved. Ever since I arrived the attention had been solely on me. Maybe now I’d become old news. “How many are there Jess?”
“I’m not sure actually, Lauren saw two but I hear there’s five, two are juniors and three are seniors.”
“The two I saw were gorgeous,” Lauren 说 her eyes wide with amazement. “A small black haired girl and a tall blonde guy, he didn’t look too comfortable.”
We were shuffled inside 由 a teacher then and headed for our first classes. All through my first three periods I thought about the new kids. I felt for them, I knew how hard it was to be new, at least they had each other. Lunch was definitely the worst, the atmosphere in the cafeteria was crazy, people talked in whispers and stared over to where the new kids were obviously sitting. Two things struck me at once, first that they seemed to be couples, except for the bronze haired boy, and 秒 they were probably the most beautiful people I had ever seen. My jaw dropped slightly as I looked over at them.
“Bella!” Jessica hissed nudging me. “Stop staring so obviously! At least wait until we’re at the table.”
All the others were already at the 表 waiting for us.
“I heard that they’re all adopted, but the two blonde ones are twins.” I was unaware of where this information came from but I was quite curios. I leaned into the group.
“Yeah,” Mike 说 eyeing them jealously, “I heard they’ve been to like 5 different schools in 3 years.”
“So did I,” Jessica 说 staring admiringly at Mike, “their dad is like a doctor 或者 something, and their mother is like a real estate something. I heard they’re loaded.”
“So what?” Angela, a quiet girl who I actually got on quite well with, 说 sounding somewhat annoyed, “you’re all just jealous. I mean look at them!”
Jessica shot her a look. “Exactly! The blonde one and the big dark haired guy are clearly a couple, and the little pixie girl and the other blonde are clearly a couple. I mean they’re brothers and sisters!”
“They’re not actually Jess,” I corrected turning my head to look at them once more. At that moment the bronze haired boy turned to stare at me, a frustrated look in his eyes. I smiled slightly and dropped my gaze, embarrassed. I noticed that Jake was gripping the 表 so hard his knuckles were white. I put my hand over his.
“You alright?” I asked, confused. He nodded, and turned his attention to the rest of the La Push gang. Leah nodded at him, her jaw tight.
I was almost excited to get to biology 下一个 period, I had a big 台, 办公桌 all to myself which I loved. I wasn’t a big 粉丝 of cramped. To my infinite surprise, sitting at my 表 was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. The bronze haired boy. Tripping slightly I joined him. He had the most confusing expression on his face, and when he looked at me I noticed that his eyes were jet black. His hands clenched into fists on the table.
“Hello,” I croaked, smiling slightly. He just nodded his head and turned around to face the teacher.
This routine was kept up for the 下一个 few weeks. I would walk into Biology and he would 移动 his chair as far away from me as the 台, 办公桌 would allow and stare right up at the teacher. Quite frankly this really annoyed me. This boy didn’t even know me! He had no right to be 表演 so rude towards me.
One day, as usual I stumbled awkwardly to our table, paying him no attention. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed him staring at me.
“Hello,” he said. His voice was the most amazing thing I had ever heard. Startled 由 this odd behaviour I was unable to talk.
“I’m Edward. Edward Cullen. I didn’t get a chance to introduce myself before.”
Of course at this point I already knew his name, and the names of his brothers and sisters, and all about his father. That information I got from Charlie. The rest was told willingly from either Jessica 或者 Mike. Both of them seemed 更多 than eager to slate the Cullens.
“I-I know,” I stuttered, “I’m Bella.”
He smiled the most dazzling crooked smile. “You’re Charlie Swan’s daughter? Isabella?”
I nodded, dumbfounded. This whole thing had taken me completely off guard. Just then our teacher came over and dropped a microscope on our table.
“Today class we will be studying mitosis. In your parents-“ I didn’t’ hear much else as I was paying far too much attention to my new partner.
“Shall we?” he eyed me suspiciously, he obviously thought I was crazy 或者 something.
“Sure sure,” I took the first slide and slid it into place. “Prophase,” I 说 confidently, already removing the slide.
“You mind if I took a look?” he asked. Sliding the microscope over faster than I had ever seen it done. “Yes, prophase.” He bent down and wrote the name on the slide, his 写作 was extremely elegant. “You’re new here too.” He stated.
“Yeah. I moved here about 2 and a half months ago. From Phoenix.”
“If 你 don’t mind me asking, why’d 你 move?”
I stared at him, blinking furiously, trying to gather my thoughts. “Em, well my mom remarried, and her new husband plays ball and she wants to go on the road with him. So I decided to 移动 down here so she could.”
“That doesn’t seem very fair,” he peered into the microscope, “Anaphase he muttered,” 写作 it down before I could object.
“Well, she deserves it, and besides I’m not doing too badly here. It’s a lot better than I thought it would be.”
He stared at me intently, that same look of frustration in his eyes. “You know, you’re very hard to read.”
My mouth fell open. “Really? Jake always says I’m like an open book. My face gives everything away.”
“Well I find 你 most difficult to read.”
“Well then maybe you’re not a very good reader.”
A smile spread across his face at that. “ Maybe.”
