They just got rid of a weak character. That's all I can imagine because he was a temp that JUST got bumped up to being hired on. Now he's going to work at corporate headquarters. UNLIKELY! That would never happen in real-life. Has he even made a sale yet? I guess this is just a television show and anything goes on tv.

Fact: Ryan will be Michael's new boss at corporate.

It may seem unfair but sadly, that's the way Modern Corporate America works. The older, more experienced people get passed over for the young, hot-shot kid with a degree and no experience.

I, personally, am looking forward to seeing Ryan as Michael's boss. Michael is going to pay for all the crap he has put that kid through.

I think the writers were just trying to throw us off.

David said something about being left in an uncertain state "the other day", meaning Ryan's interview was before everyone elses.

Ryan said that he thought that the scranton branch was going to fail... he was just getting a leg up the first chance he gets

What do you mean he didn't get the job when he got the job....

I think he applied for it way before all of them. He was looking for a way out for a long time and probably was keeping tabs on the company here and there in the duration of Jan's lunacy and knew it was only a matter of time.
