Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
‘The Cripple of Inishmaan’ is a roller coaster of laughs and poignant moments
The Last Man On Earth" from last night on Fox, April 12, details the events of episode 9, titled, "The Do-Over," and may contain spoilers. During last few weeks of "The Last Man On Earth" we found out that Phil, played by Will Forte, and Carol, played by Kristen Schaal, were not the last two people on earth. In fact, Melissa Shart, played by January Jones and Todd, played by Mel Rodriguez are alive and well in Tuscon and their presence is causing Phil a considerable amount of trouble. This week we add two more cast members to the show in a surprising twist of events.
Carol and Phil are in bed, but Phil can\'t sleep because Carol\'s sleep apnea mask is causing her to make whirring sound through her filtered mask. Phil wakes Carol up and she tells him that she just needs to tighten her mask, which was a bit loose so it didn\'t cause her pressure sores on her face. Carol reminds Phil, "Sleep apnea is a part of who I am, just like dandruff and aggressive night toots are a part of who you are." Carol asks for a quick good night kiss and Phil obliges.
The next morning Phil walks past his Monet painting to find Carol has painted a little dog on the bridge. He confronts Carol about the situation and she tells him that the painting had no life, so she painted a fun little dog on it. She calls the painting "Dog Bridge," by Carol and Monet. Phil asks Carol not to paint on his paintings and she agrees, but he notices she has also painted a duck on the Van Gogh on the wall behind her. Carol tells Phil that their possessions are now commingled and he better get used to it. Carol gives Phil a shopping list and although Phil is furious at the situation, he goes to fill the list.
Outside, Phil sees Melissa and Todd acting cute together while Todd cuts Melissa\'s hair. Phil writes down on the grievance board that there should be less outdoor haircuts, but there\'s not much room left with all the complaints that Carol, Todd and Melissa have written down concerning Phil\'s behavior. Later, Phil gathers all the items on Carol\'s list and then sets them on fire in an act of defiance. He curses the sky towards God, who he thinks is laughing at him. Phil says out loud, "If I only knew then what I know now. I just wish I could have a do-over." At that point Erica, played by actress Cleopatra Coleman and Gail, played by actress Mary Steenburgen, drive up and introduce themselves.
Phil is stunned by the situation and when the women ask him if he\'s alone, he lies and tells them that he\'s indeed the last man on earth. The women are ecstatic to come across him and they all hug in celebration. The three of them head back to where Gail and Erica have been staying and they enjoy a very nice dinner, courtesy of Gail who was a chef before the virus. Gail and Erica reveal that they met up with each other while at the White House and Erica admits to being a political nerd. When Gail and Erica bring up the subject of sex and question if Phil is into women, Phil makes them know that he most definitely, "Very much into girls."
While toasting with champagne, the women notice Phil\'s wedding ring and question him about being married. Phil lies once again and tells the women that he used to be married, but shortly thereafter Phil has a moment of clarity, or perhaps remorse, and he tells Gail and Erica that he needs to quickly head home to feed the meter, check the stove and drop by the bank, but promises to be back in a few hours. Phil heads back to Carol with everything on the shopping list and Carol is very pleased with him.
When Carol tells Phil that she knows what he was up to while he was gone he begins to get a little nervous that she may have been following him. Carol ends up telling Phil that he was out "Finding his smile," a quote from the movie "City Slickers." Phil tells Carol that he needs to have some more time by himself and tells her that he\'s going to go camping. Carol tells Phil to go out and find himself and he heads off back to Gail and Erica. Phil just can\'t stop lying to everyone he comes in contact with.
Phil stops by the bar to change into some fresh dress clothes and talk things over with his imaginary ball friends. He tells the balls, all assembled on the pool table, that in the end his new double life is going to benefit his relationship with Carol. He asks the balls to tell him if he\'s making a mistake, and after he doesn\'t hear any complaints, he heads over to see Gail and Erica. Phil arrives with a couple of bottles of alcohol and when the women ask him for his last name, Phil once again lies and tells them it\'s Cormaneau.
Meanwhile, Carol, Melissa and Todd are having dinner and they ask where Phil is that evening. Carol explains that he\'s camping and Melissa thinks it\'s weird, but Todd defends Phil, explaining that camping can be a very spiritual experience. Melissa pokes fun at Todd for looking up to Phil, and there\'s a slight uneasy tension between the two over the matter. Melissa is, at this point, pretty much fed up with Phil and his antics. However, they all decide to go to the party store and fill up the house with balloons and decorations for when Phil comes back home. They hop into the car and drive to the store.
Things are heating up with Phil, Gail and Erica but Phil almost screws things up by calling the women bucket list items because Gail is a hot older lady and Erica a black woman. Phil backtracks for a bit, almost screwing things up worse, but he apologizes and then lies some more, telling them about his wife Carol who he says died a long protracted death. The women feel sympathy for Phil and then decide to go skinny dipping at the hot springs, so they also hop into their car and hit the road.
The episode ends badly when Phil, Gail and Erica see Carol, Melissa and Todd driving up the road towards them. The two cars stop and everyone gets out except for Phil who hides in the back seat. Everyone is overjoyed that they\'ve found and connected with more survivors of the virus. When Gail and Erica go back to their car to get Phil, he reluctantly looks out the window and Carol, Melissa and Todd are a bit confused and disgusted by Phil\'s actions. Carol tells Erica and Gail that Phil is her husband and Phil says, "Surprise!" as the episode comes to a rapid close.
