Super Smash Bros. is one of my 最喜爱的 video game series of all time. It’s one of those game series that can be played both casually and competitively, as its gameplay is mixed between a party aspect and a fighting game aspect. It’s one of the few reasons that I keep choosing to buy 任天堂 consoles, alongside Pokemon. And since I have played all of the Smash Bros. games, I might as well rank all of them from least good to the best. A couple of things before I start ranking, I’m only including official Smash games developed 由 Sora Ltd., so no fan-games and mods like Super Smash Flash 2 and Project M. I’ll also rank Wii U and 3DS versions separately, even though they’re essentially the same game, they have enough exclusive features to be ranked separately. I’ll also discuss my 最喜爱的 newcomers from each game.

6. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

This is probably one of my most disappointing video games ever. Smash Wii U isn’t a bad game 由 any means, but since I put my expectations very high for this game, it just didn’t meet it. However, I’m going to cover a few positives first. Smash Wii U might be the best looking game of its series, it is just so pretty to look at. I am also thankful that they greatly improved the wi-fi connection compared to the last installment (Brawl), as well as categorizing two online different modes: casual players can play For Fun, while competitive players can play For Glory. However, outside of those two factors, this game didn’t have much to offer comparing to the other installment, except 64. The biggest issue I have with Smash Wii U is the lack of interesting single content. Classic Mode and All-Star Mode got less fun, Target Test got cut from this game, and 8-player Smash (while cool in concept) is limited to only be playable in large stages. The new game modes are not that interesting to come back for. Master and Crazy Orders was fun for 30 minutes, but got bored of it very quickly. And Smash Board….it sucks, what were they thinking?

Favorite Newcomer: My 最喜爱的 is easily Shulk. I was originally going to have Greninja as my 最喜爱的 since it's one of my 最喜爱的 Pokemon, but if it wasn’t for Shulk’s inclusion in Smash, I wouldn’t got into Xenoblade Chronicles (which ended up being my 最喜爱的 video game of all time), so I’m very thankful of that. I 爱情 how Shulk doesn’t play like any of the sword characters because of his Monado arts. Even though I’m not that great with Shulk, he’s still fun to play with.

5. Super Smash Bros. (64)

The one that started it all. While I haven’t played this installment nearly as much as Melee, Brawl, and Ultimate, Smash 64 still holds a special place in my heart, as it is one of the first video games I’ve ever played. However, what puts Smash 64 low on my ranking is that there isn’t much to do other than the normal multiplayer mode, Classic Mode, and Target Test. Also, a lack of side-B moves and air dodge mechanics limits the characters’ movesets. The reason I placed Smash 64 higher than Smash Wii U is because the sound effects whenever a character hits another was so satisfying to hear. Board the Platform is also an incredible minigame mode that I’m sad it didn’t return in later installments. And of course, this game is very nostalgic to me.

Favorite Original Fighter: Luigi, hands down. His victory animations are just hilarious to look at, plus my 最喜爱的 color is green when I was a kid (and it still is now) so Luigi gets an extra point from me. Granted, I have grown to like Samus 更多 as a character, but at the time, Luigi was 由 far my 最喜爱的 of the original 12.

4. Super Smash Bros. for 3DS

I will admit that the Wii U version is objectively a better version with better graphics and frame rate. However, I personally prefer the 3DS version because it has better single-player content than the Wii U version. The Classic Mode in 3DS version is better in my opinion and most of the Challenges are pretty fun to unlock. The biggest selling point that makes me think Smash 3DS is better than the lower ranks is Smash Run. A side-scrolling platformer that allows 你 to fight numerous of different enemies from franchises; this is the closest that we have of a Subspace Emissary sequel. Smash Run alone is worth coming back to Smash 3DS. Since the newcomers are identical to Smash Wii U, we’re just going to 移动 to the 下一个 rank.

3. Super Smash Bros. Melee

Now, these 下一个 three installments are what I considered masterpieces in their own rights. For Melee, it added a lot of mechanics that became staples to the series, including air dodge, side specials, charging smash attacks, and dropping through platforms while midair. This installment featured some really cool game modes like Adventure Mode, Event Matches, and All-Star Mode, as well as collecting trophies. Just like Smash 64, this game was a big part of my childhood. Unlike 64 however, I spent a lot of time playing this game when I was young, as well as playing with my dad the most when it comes to video games (maybe except for Mario Kart Wii). The only reason why Melee isn’t ranked any higher is because there aren’t a lot of single player content in comparison to the 下一个 two entries.

Favorite Newcomer: Honestly, none of the newcomers really excited me, at least initially. I was initially going to pick Bowser since when I first saw him in Melee, I was happy that they added Mario’s main villain. However, he was too slow for my liking. Then I tried out Falco and dang, I had a lot of fun playing as him. I also enjoy playing Bowser, Zelda, Pichu, and Roy overtime, but Falco is one of the few characters that I consistently have fun playing throughout the whole series. Plus, his 设计 is pretty cool.

2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Super Smash Bros. Brawl, in my opinion, has the best single-player mode ever: Subspace Emissary. In that adventure mode, I 爱情 how characters interact in the cutscenes with almost no dialogue. This installment also features the best original soundtracks in the series, some examples being the Main Menu, Boss Battle, and Final Destination. Now, this installment does few issues that held it back from being the best of the series, it is pretty awful when it comes to competitive metagame, it has the infamous 随意 tripping mechanic that even casual players like me at the time hated it, and it has 由 far the worst wi-fi connection of the series and in the Wii library. There are often times that an online match will freeze for a long time and eventually disconnect the players afterward, that is how it is. Still, the pros listed here greatly outweighs the cons.

Favorite Newcomer: Meta Knight. When I first saw him in the E3 reveal trailer, I thought he was cool. Once I started playing with him, I got addicted to him for some reason. I think it could be that he is super fast and has ridiculous moves and recoveries. No wonder he’s 最佳, 返回页首 tier in the Brawl competitive, and I was not into competitive Smash at the time. Despite not playing any of the Kirby games (asides from with friends), I still enjoy playing as Meta Knight.

1. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate basically took all of the best parts from each of the 前一个 games then mash them together and make a near perfect Smash Bros. game. It has terrific sound effects when 你 hit other characters like in Smash 64, its gameplay is very fast-paced (if not as fast as Melee), its 音乐 remixes and single-player contents are great (although World of Light is not as good as Subspace Emissary from Brawl), and the graphic is amazing if not as good as Wii U due to Switch’s limitations. Another plus for Ultimate is that they brought back every single character from the 前一个 installments, even the ones that are either obsolete first-party like Pichu and Young Link 或者 unlikely third-party characters like Snake and Cloud. This installment also featured the best iteration of Classic Mode in the series, where each character has their own unique fights that suit their theme 或者 personality. For example, Inkling will have stages that each contains characters with the same color. Now, this game is not perfect, as World of Light, while good enough as a sole game mode, is nowhere near as engaging as Subspace Emissary, the removal of trophies is a big letdown for me, and the online is pretty bad without a lan adapter. However, these small amounts of cons are slim in comparison to the numerous pros of this game.

Favorite Newcomer: Inkling, no contest. For a long time beforehand, I had struggled to find a true main to pick in competitive Smash. In Smash 4, I tried Samus, Greninja, Bowser, and Mewtwo, but they all failed to fit my playstyle. When I got Smash Ultimate, I gave Inkling a shot, then I instantly fell in 爱情 with her. She is crazy fast and adds up damage when 你 paint inks in your opponents. A lot of her moves are also cool callbacks for other weapons from Splatoon like Splattershot, Roller, Slosher, and Blaster. As a gamer who loves the Splatoon games, I have another reason to enjoy playing Inkling. She will most likely be my eternal main in future years of Smash!

Conclusion: And that’s my ranking for every Super Smash Bros. game! I 爱情 nearly all of these games. Each Smash game has their own quirks that make them stand out from each other. Smash Bros. has been one of the greatest video game franchises of all time. I have to praise Mashiro Sakurai for creating this timeless series!
