Well, I think John would want him to choose Sam over him anyway! After all, he's the one who hammered it into Dean's brain that he had to take care of his little brother.

Good point, fanfly. Not that Dean loves Sam more than John, but he feels that he has to save Sam, and I do think that Dean is actually closer to Sam than to John.
