Hook Man discrepancy. Anyone else think of this? (Please read description.)

If they only needed to melt the Hook Man's hook to destroy it, why wasn't he destroyed when the hook was melted down and reforged back in 1862?

AND part of the hook was still around. only in 项链 form. When Dean melted it down, it was gone.
