Super Smash Brothers Brawl, for the Wii, is an action-packed fighting game with a multitude of characters including Mario, Link, Kirby, Pikachu, Sonic, and Snake. It was named the Best Video Game Ever when it was released in 2008 and it is still widely enjoyed today. This is understandable with all the modes, stages, items, and 更多 characters than 你 can shake a golden hammer at! There are even some people who buy the 任天堂 Wii just for the chance to play this game. But not soon after playing the game myself, I went on the internet and found that people were already posting what they wanted in the 下一个 game. As much hype as it was getting, gamers were wondering if Super Smash Brothers Brawl still had some things to improve upon.
The Super Smash Brothers franchise, while limited to only three games, is one of the best known 任天堂 titles. The first game is called Super Smash Brothers, the 秒 game is called Super Smash Brothers Melee, with the third Super Smash Brothers Brawl. It is the best known probably due to the fact that it is a fighting game that includes main characters of games in other franchises. Another thing that is great about the series is that it has a lot of characters and they give each character a set of moves. As new games came out, they would have the same characters with the same moves, but they would improve on those moves in some way. There are a multitude of game modes as well. There were not that many in the original game but Melee had a whole bunch. And do not get me started on brawls because I do not think I could finish. Speaking of Brawl, it is the first game in the franchise to have an actual story mode. In the original, the one player mode would just randomly fight the other characters in the game. Melee had an adventure mode but that was still just going around randomly and getting into 随意 fights. Brawl promised an actual story line. 粉丝 of the original always wanted third party characters to be put in the newer games. Brawl promised to put third party content into the game.
Any good game has a lot of characters. Without the various characters, Brawl would be nothing. The characters are the main reason why people even buy this game. Brawl has a total of thirty-five characters, which is a real step 前锋, 期待 from the original game’s twelve. But even with such a high number, some 粉丝 seemed dissatisfied. Along with the original game’s twelve, it also had a maximum of two characters per franchise. That said, only two franchises actually reached the maximum. Melee has a total of twenty-five characters, with a maximum of five per franchise. Only one actually reached the maximum but a few came pretty close. Brawl has thirty-five characters but it had a four character maximum. They actually took four characters that were in Melee out, five if 你 count Young Link. Brawl did keep the original twelve from the first game. To make matters worse, some of the characters that were cut were some of my favorites. There were many, however, who did not like the characters that were cut. Brawl only had a ten character increase, unlike Melee’s thirteen character increase, not to mention the exclusion of certain characters. It is hard to see how 粉丝 would not be unsatisfied.
Don’t get me wrong, though, Brawl is a great game. Any good game has a lot of modes of play and Brawl has a lot of game modes that are really complex. 你 can play in a group, in teams, 或者 由 yourself. There are a lot of one-player modes, like classic, where 你 play in the style of the original game’s one-player mode. There is also all-star mode, where 你 fight all the characters. There is a boss-battles mode where 你 fight the various bosses that are in the game. There is also a training mode, home-run contest, hit the target (well I could go on and on). There is also a rotation mode where 你 play with a big group and four play at one time. The players rotate in and out and the game monitors this so that it is fair, which could have been really handy when I was playing Melee during lunch time in high school. In Melee, there were a group of modes called the event matches where 你 agree to a certain rule, like everyone is tall, 或者 tiny, 或者 super fast. In Brawl, 你 can mix and match the rules. For example, 你 can have a super-fast stamina match with invisible giants 或者 a match where everyone is made of metal, breathes fire, jumps super high, and moves in slow motion. There is always a reason to turn on 任天堂 Wii’s Super Smash Brothers Brawl, even if that reason is just to watch CPU’s(Computer Player Characters) beat each other up.
It would be good for a great game to have a story mode. So let’s talk about subspace emissary. This is the story mode that they promised. In the subspace emissary, the Brawl universe is under attack 由 weird shadow creatures. The cast of Brawl form teams and each team goes out to destroy these things before they can destroy the world. It is a really great story. The characters hardly ever talk except to say a catch phrase 或者 battle cry, but really their actions speak louder than their words. Most things are understood from what they are doing. There are a few things that are hard to understand but 你 can go to the Brawl website and it explains some of the stuff that might be hard to understand. For example, it explains why King Dedede, who is the main villain in the Kirby games, goes against the other villains who are siding with the bad guys in this mode. As great as the story is, it has a few short comings. For example, Kirby could, in the 前一个 game, eat minor characters like Koopas. In 太空 emissary, he cannot eat them and even has a difficult time bringing them in, if at all. Also three of the characters, Wolf, Toon Link, and Jigglypuff, were not actually in the main story. 你 cannot actually play them in 太空 emissary until 你 have actually beaten the game.
It would be nice for a great game to have third party content. The game designers also promised third party content. If 你 do not know, third party content means content outside 任天堂 titles, like Sega, for example. I believe their only requirement for inclusion in the game is that they had to have a 标题 on a 任天堂 system. With that, they only included two third party characters, as well as two stages and two assist trophies. An assist trophy is like a helper character, who then comes out and assists the character 由 doing his/her main fight 或者 block. It is really disappointing that they only have two of these. On the Sonic stage, they had Tails, Knuckles, and Silver in the background, all three of which would have made a great character 或者 a great assist trophy. They did not have any third party bosses. They could have easily put Eggman in a Giant Robot as a boss 或者 maybe a Metal Gear Rex. The game really had no surprises when it came to third party stuff. While I am sure that all the 粉丝 were excited to see Sonic and Snake in action, we all know that they could have added more.
This game is really a great game. I am a little hard on it, in some cases, but it is still my 最喜爱的 game ever. The characters, the game modes, the story, the third party content, and the stuff I did not mention, were all great. But, they can still use some improvement in their fourth game. They should bring back the characters that were taken out. They should add even 更多 characters – twenty 或者 more. They should make a story that includes everyone. They should also add 更多 third party stuff. Now that would make a great game!!
