I think that whether or not Stefan ever came into Elena's life, I am sure at some point Rose would have found her regardless. And now, Stefan and Damon are going to protect Elena...she is putting them in danger

True,if he even tries to protect elena from klaus then he would be dead.But he saved her from dying in 2x08 when elijah came to take her so if he didn't come then she would have been sacrificed.It's bad becuase if she runs away or becomes a vampire then klaus would kill her family,so i understand why she would want to do the sacrafice.In an interveiw Nina said that elena is not ready to become a vampire "just yet"!
