My 老友记 and I had to read Speak for school. My friend (ironically, her name is Rachel)says everything was totally Melinda's fault because she got drunk. What do 你 have to say to that?

It's not. That's not what causes rape. Rapists cause rape. It's never the victim's fault.

That is complete and utter crap. It's not like Andy never would've raped her if she wasn't drunk anyway. It's not a choice she had and she wouldn't have had one even if she wasn't drunk. She tried to say no. Andy raped her anyway. It's his fault.

I don’t think it was Melinda’s fault at all. She made a mistake in getting drunk, but we all make mistakes; that’s how we learn. Being raped wasn’t Melinda’s fault at all; Andy Evans was to blame for that.
