Option 2
It was Monday morning... I am bummed that the weekend is over. It went 由 quickly. Grandpa, Grandma, and I had gone to their 海滩 house for the weekend. I had so much; I could not wait to go back this coming weekend! Over the weekend I enrolled in a surfing class. I had happened upon it one morning when me and Grandpa were going to go fishing. I had mentioned to him how it would be neat to try it. Well, I tried the first class and I was immediately hooked on surfing. It took me several tries before I was able to stand up and actually ride a wave. But once I stood up on that board, it was the best feeling in the world.
The lights in my bedroom flickered off and on once. I looked over at the door and Grandma was standing there.
"Time to get ready for school!" She signed.
"Okay." I sign unhappily.
"What's wrong?" She asked with a worried expression on her face.
"I just want to go surfing again. I had so much!" I stated. "I cannot wait to go back."
"Well, I am sure the week will fly by!" She signing smiling. "Hurry up so Grandpa can drive 你 to school. It is sprinkling outside."
"Awe man." I 说 as I wrinkled my nose and glanced at the window.
I hurried to find some clothes and ended up finding the surfing 衬衫 I had received for sighing up. I quickly put that on and found some shorts to pair with it.
Grandpa drove rather fast though the light mist. I think he was late to work 或者 something.
"Bye Grandpa! Thanks." I signed.
"Bye; have a good day." He signed back.
I hopped out of the truck and saw Tex waiting under the awning.
"Hey how was 你 weekend?" I asked.
"It was alright. I worked and took my horse out for ride." He signed. "How was your weekend?"
"It was amazing! I took a surfing class and I am hooked!" I signed. "It was so much fun. 你 have to come with me one weekend and try it!"
"Sounds like 你 enjoyed it a lot." He signing smiling. "But I don't think that surfing is for me."
"Awe, okay." I signed disappointed.
"Ready for class?" He asked.
"Nope! I wish it was still the weekend!" I signed as I put my back to the lockers.
"Me too! But back to school we go." He signed after he closed his locker. "The 钟, 贝尔 just rang; we are late!"
"Who cares!" I 说 laughing.
After school was over I had to head straight to the hardware store. Grandpa wanted my help after school now. I was kind of bummed that Tex and I couldn't hangout together. We didn't get to hangout over the weekend and we didn't get to talk much during our classes. Maybe tomorrow at lunch we could sit together and the lacrosse team wouldn't want us to sit with them. It was fun sometimes sitting with them but I couldn't understand them half the time. Tex was always polite and signed when he was talking but he could sign for everyone at once.
"Talulah!" Grandpa signed as he waved at me.
"Sorry! What's up?" I asked signing.
"You okay? 你 have been really quiet since 你 got here from school." He asked signing.
"Yeah, just thinking." I signed.
"Well what were 你 thinking about?" He asked as he pried.
"Just people at school." I signed as I tried to keep to myself.
"Is someone making fun of 你 at school?!" Grandpa asked worriedly.
"No! Not at all." I signed. "It's nothing. I promise!"
"It's that boy, Tex, ain't it?" He asked grinning.
"I guess." I signed blushing.
"He's a good kid!" Grandpa signed as he winked at me and then left.
I let out a sigh of relief. I didn't want to talk to Grandpa about boys. That would kind of weird. I can talk to Grandpa about a lot of things. But talking about boys to anyone makes me blush. I just get embarrassed and I don't know why. All my 老友记 at school are boys.
It was a slow 日 at the shop. Once I finished sorting tools and putting them where they belong, I started on my homework. I just about got everything done except for math. Math was killer and it was my worst subject. Grandpa could help me on some problems but others he couldn't. Maybe Grandma could help me once we closed the 商店 up. We usually closed at 6:30 on Mondays but today was extra slow so we decided to close 15 分钟 early. But right as Grandpa and I were walking out of the door, someone pulled into a parking place.
"Who's car is that," I asked Grandpa.
Grandpa turned around and took a look at the car.
"It looks like Mrs. Cooper." Grandpa signed.
"Who is that?" I asked. "I haven't me her yet."
"That is Tex's mom." He signed.
"Oh!" I signed surprised.
"Hey Mr. Scott; 嘿 Talli." Tex 说 as he walked up the store steps. "Where 你 closing up?"
"We were but we can grab what 你 need." Grandpa said.
"I can come back tomorrow!" He said.
"Don't be silly boy. We are here now." Grandpa spoke as he signed.
"Whatcha need?" I asked trying to get a word in.
"Just a a 1/4 socket wrench." He signed.
"Well it is your lucky 日 because I just stocked those." I said. "I'll got get ya one."
I ran to aisle 3 and picked it up about half way down on the left side.
"That was quick!" Grandpa signed.
"Thank you. How much do I owe you, Sir?" Tex asked Grandpa.
"It is free if 你 can help Talulah with her math homework for tomorrow." Grandpa signed.
Was Grandpa trying to set me up with Tex 或者 did he think I need Tex's help in math?
"Sure thang!" Tex signed smiling. "Come 由 anytime after 6:30. I should be bout done with my truck."
"Um okay." I 说 slightly embarrassed.
"Thank 你 Mr. Scott." Tex said. "See 你 in a little bit Talli!"
"See ya later." I signed.
As soon as Tex left the store I looked over at Grandpa as my face flushed a light shade of pink.
"I cannot believe 你 just did that!" I signed.
"I did what?" Grandpa signed 表演 like he didn't know what he had done. "You really do need help in math!"
Grandpa winked at me and we headed back out the door.
"Grandpa, now I have to go over to his house tonight!" I signed.
"What's wrong with that?" He asked confused.
"It is only a couple of problems. I can miss them. It was no big deal!" I signed.
"Sure that is the problem." Grandpa chuckled as we made our way home.
"Grandma!" I 说 as I came through the front door.
"What's wrong honey? Where is Grandpa?" She asked worriedly.
"In the car! 你 will never believe what Grandpa did today!" I signed.
"What did he do?" She asked curiously.
"He is making me go to Tex's house to get help on my math homework!" I signed.
"Oh that good." She signed smiling.
"Are y'all trying to set me up with him?" I asked.
"I am not answering that question. Now go wash up, it is time for dinner." Grandma 说 changing the subject.
I could not believe them! They were actually trying to set my up Tex. Half of me wants to be embarrassed while the other half of me is shouting for joy. I doubt it will go anywhere. He is just helping me with a few problems and then I am coming home. But if it does, I have their approval.
It was after 晚餐 and I was brushing my teeth before I went to Tex's house. I have to admit I am a bit nervous about this. My feelings finally hit me today. I really do like Tex. For the first time I have ever liked a guy this much. I mean I have liked guys before but they were just small crushes and I knew they would not go anywhere since I use to 移动 so much.
"So who is driving me Tex's?" I asked as I walked in the living room.
"You are!" Grandma 说 as she tossed me the keys.
"You're kidding?" I asked shocked.
"No; 你 can drive yourself." Grandpa signed.
"Just be 首页 my 10." Grandma signed with a grin on her face. "Don't forget your books!"
"Oh thank you! That would have been embarrassing!" I signed with wide eyes.
I ran to my room and grabbed my math book. I was getting 更多 nervous 由 the minute.
"Bye 爱情 y'all." I signed.
"Bye!" Grandpa and Grandma signed together.
I threw my 图书 into the 座位 of the truck. Grandpa had the coolest truck around town. It may not be the shiniest in town but it has character for sure. Other people and 由 other people, I mean Grandma, have been trying to get Grandpa to get a newer truck. The 床, 床上 of the truck was made out of wood and there were a few rusty spots on the doors and hood. But this truck was a classic. It would be gorgeous all cleaned up.
I made my way to Tex's house and I passed my old house. I slowed down to get a good look at it. I had not seen it since that day. It was all dark and there was a sign in the front yard. I guess Grandpa and Grandma were putting it up for sale. They couldn't afford 2 house and a kid in the house. It was understandable. Maybe they just didn't want me to have to deal with that house.
I pulled into Tex's driveway and their outside lights were on. It was pretty bright out for it to be dark. I notice that the majority of the lights were shining on Tex and his truck. I forgot to ask what was wrong with it when he came in the 商店 today.
Text heard me coming up the driveway and waved. There was another truck in the driveway. It could be his dad. I had not ever met his dad nor seen his truck.
I jumped out the truck with my book. I was 更多 nervous than when I left the house. But I saw Tex's smile and the nervousness almost went completely away.
"Hey, I am here for my tutor session." I 说 laughing.
It was still pretty dark out so I figured it would be useless to sign.
"Hey Talli! I am glad 你 could make it." He 说 as his smile shown through the darkness.
"I'm just gonna but in and introduce myself again. I am River." a guy 说 as he came around the back of the truck.
"It's nice to meet you." I 说 laughing.
We shook hand and he seemed a bit surprised.
"You've got a nice strong handshake for girl." River said.
"Thank you." I 说 with a hint of laughter. "So what happened to the truck?"
"River came over to help me install some knew headlights and taillights." Tex said.
"Oh cool. I meant to ask 你 earlier at the 商店 but Grandpa was being chatty!" I 说 jokingly.
"It's no problem." Tex 说 laughing.
I think he understood what I meant when I 说 that. I sure hope he did.
"Ohhh so that is what took so long at the hardware store." River 说 laughing. "Wait, 你 work at the hardware store in town."
"The one and only." I 说 blushing a little bit.
"So 你 know about tools?" He asked shocked.
"I'm learning." I stated. "I haven't been working there long."
"Oh how long?" He asked.
"I don't know. Maybe a month." I shrugged.
I really didn't want to count how long I have been working at the hardware store. The 日 after dad died, Grandpa and Grand,a wanted me working down there so my mind would be occupied. I think they wanted to keep me busy, thinking it would keep my mind off dad. But it hasn't been helping.
"We just had to do a little bit 更多 and then we will be finished." Tex said.
I watched as they put the font bumper back on and cleaned the tools up. Once they finished that, River left to go home.
I followed Tex inside through the back door. We walked into the 厨房 and it was really pretty. It looked like they have just remodeled it.
"I'm going to go wash my hands and then I'll come right back." He signed.
"Okay." I signed.
"You can sit at the table." He 说 as he pointed behind me.
Thankfully, he was not gone long and reappeared before his parents did.
"Would 你 like something to drink?" He asked signing.
"Sure." I signed.
"Sweet tea?" He asked.
"That'll be fine." I said.
"Okay." Tex said.
I watched as he put the cup under the ice maker and heard the ice go in the cup. It was really loud to me. Almost a bad sound.
He bought the drinks to the 表 and his hands were still black.
"Sorry, my hands stay this color when I work on my truck 或者 the equipment at work," He 说 as he signed.
"It's alright. I just wondered why they were that color." I 说 almost blushing.
"Let's get started." He said.
"Hey Tex, did 你 get that truck finished?" His Dad 说 as he came into the kitchen.
"We sure did! They look good!" Tex stated. "Dad this is Talulah. Talulah, my dad."
"It's nice to meet you." I said.
It was kind of odd to hear Tex call me Talulah. I don't know if he has called me Talulah.
"Nice to meet 你 too." He 说 smiling.
"What are y'all working on?" Mr. Cooper asked.
"Talli needed help with her math homework." Tex said.
"You are asking the wrong guy to help." Mr. Cooper 说 laughing.
I looked at Tex with a confused look.
"Dad is joking! I do pretty well in math." Tex 说 reassuring me.
"Okay good." I said. "I thought I was going to have find another tutor. Then Grandpa would either want some money 或者 his socket wrench back!"
I jumped as I heard the ice machine again. I sat my book on the 表 and looked over at Tex who's face was red.
"What's wrong?" I asked signing.
"Nothing!" He signed quickly. "Let's get started!"
