Being a wizard doesn't guarantee your safety, but there is a pretty good chance you'll live a good life as long as there isn't some nutty old dark wizard running around the place. On the other hand, being a demigod practically guarantees that your life will be tough. Percy himself said that being a demigod, monsters will smell you anywhere and seek you out, and Poseidon also apologized to Percy for giving him a demigod's life, which basically means that a demigod's life is hard.
