The flashbacks showed Brooke's success with clothes over bros, naley first starting out as a family with Jamie, Nathan still pursuing his basketball career, obviously Leyton and where their relationship peaked then went downhill, and Lucas' book being pulished and him starting his career as an author. All of which are very crucial aspects that we needed to be filled in on. So sure, the other flashback options were all great and entertaining, but for me 5.05 was by far the most informative!
Those flashbacks proved to us that all of that was Leytons dream that they wanted together all along, and that their dream was coming true. Their situation that they ended up in wasn't just a result of how things unfolded, it was also what Lucas and Peyton both truly wanted for their relationship, and something that they had addressed before. we didn't know that before the flashbacks.
It may not have necessarily been crucial for EVERYONE to see, since those people who aren't Leyton fans probably didn't really care to see it, or because these flashbacks didn't include all of the characters... But I do think that it was informative to some extent.
Please do not jump down my throat, but it was always pretty obvious that Mark didn't give 2 shits about continuity. Those flashbacks not only just further pushed LP at the audience, they totally went against other stuff we had been told/shown.
And before you say that's not the case, i actually made a pick about this a while ago. In 6x21 Peyton talks about how she sent numerous copies of his novel out, yet back in 5x06 when they fight, he claims she didn't believe in him. I'm not gonna argue with anybody but come on, at some point we all have to admit that at least that part really was just bullshit thrown in to try and make people like LP more.
Like i said, not gonna argue with anybody, but i know quite a few LP fans even acknowledged how BS that was.
No offense, but it comes across like you feel that mark is desperate to convert people into LP fans, because nobody likes them like he hoped they would or something lol. But that's not the case, PLENTY of people like Leyton, and Leyton already had a HUGE fanbase before mark even started "rewriting history". It's not like Mark is so desperate to scrap up any last minute Leyton fans that he can get lol. The assumption that THAT is the reason for these flashbacks just comes across as ignorant and just bitterness. but as you said, "I'm not trying to start an argument". You have the right to feel that way, but acting as if LP were the only part that Mark was off with his continuity, and that he needed to rewrite history to make people like them is not accurate at all
Where in my comment did i say LP were the only part that was off continuity wise?? I didn't say that at all.
Where in my comment did i say those flashbacks were to shove them down our throats?? My exact words were Those flashbacks not only just further pushed LP at the audience, they totally went against other stuff we had been told/shown.
Nowhere in there did i make any allusions that LP didn't already have a big fanbase, nowhere in there did u say anything bitter. My main point was the contradictory nature of the flashbacks in respect to the fight in 5x06. While yes, i do believe that Mark & co. often tried to make LP look better, that in no way is me saying they don't have a big fanbase.
PLEASE STOP TWISTING STUFF AROUND AND TRYING TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE I'M SAYING DIFFERENT STUFF.
I genuinely wasn't trying to bash LP or cause arguments. Most people know that I've come to accept LP, so you should probably stop trying to make me look like some big LP hater every chance you get because it's bullshit. I'm just not a hypocrite.

^^^ I even said something about it back then: It didn't really pop in my head when the episode aired but WHAT THE FUCK?!? Do these writers not believe in continuity AT ALL?? There's no way they can excuse this or try to say that Luke didn't know she had done that, so wtf was the point??
I would feel the same way if Brucas or Naley had that kind of crap done. It's a sign of BAD WRITING when you can't even stick to what you wrote a season and a half before. It has NOTHING to do with feelings about LP, i really just do not like sucky writing.
It explained so much we saw how they all got to certain places and certain emotions.
Without the others we would still understand the rest of the season, but without 5x05 we would be so confused on what happened. Especially with leyton<3
