I just think it's strange that trough out the whole 5th season we don't hear a word about the man. Which is kind of strange considering the influences he had during the first four seasons!

he's retired and is probably retreating somewhere in peace. whether it's a cruise or just at home or whatever is irrelevant. I honestly don't really care. It would be nice for him to guest star and mentor some of the characters, but for them to go see him and see how he's doing would be a waste of screentime in my opinion (I don't want part of the show to be allocated to his personal storyline - it's been played out).

Although we know he retired, the information we were given is rather blunt. And being one of those rare one tree hill fanatics that was really, really fond of Whitey Durham, I would have liked to known a bit more about his retirement. Why did he retire? Where did he retire to? And although you have some good points about Whitey not being that important of a character (actually his prescenece was pointless) and his personal storyline was un interesting, he was a funny old character that really added the show's spirit. And I have to say that it would not be wasting screentime because I always enjoy his advice. Love him<33

I'm very sorry but I never heard that Whitey retired. At the end of season 4 he's going to coach a college. That's when he invites Nathan to come with him. Can somebody please tell me in what episode they told us about the retirement?

I wish they'd show him again! Whitey was frickin awesome!

1treehillfan, he retired cause he won a state championship (remember he's had a list of goals since s1, and he tried to retire once he coached 500 games, but nate and other ppl pushed him to keep at it cause they needed him; then he won TH state, but whitey saw that nate needed him so he decided to coach in college & let nate on his team; then he saw that the kids were ok and his goals were fulfilled, so he finally retired in peace - it was overdue). That was it for him. I doubt there was more to it but you never know.
and I used Hilarie/Peyton as a photo cause it was late, I was tired and I didn't have a picture of whitey in my comp so I used a pic of peyton with an expression on her face that sorta expressed a feeling of indifference on the topic... :)
