Chris Martin Says Katy Perry, Nirvana, EDM Inspired Coldplay\'s "Sky Full of Stars"

Did Chris Martin write a love song about Katy Perry!? Well, not exactly. The British Coldplay frontman recently revealed that he was inspired to write the band\'s hit "Sky Full of Stars" after immersing himself in the "Roar" singer\'s music.

"I\'ll tell you the truth — I was listening to a lot of Katy Perry. A lot of her songs have the same chord sequence the whole time," Martin, 37, said in a new video for Beats by Dre. "Your body feels comfortable with them and then the melody is changing on top so there\'s a groove you really get into."

, its sixth studio album, back in May. "Sky Full of Stars," which was also inspired by Nirvana\'s "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and EDM, is one of the more cheerful tunes amid a track list that otherwise describes heartache and sorrow.

"I\'m not the most poetic lyricist, but I know what feels right," Martin, who split from Jennifer Lawrence last month, explained.

is probably an album about heartbreak, but it\'s not saying that something is broken so you should just give up. It\'s saying something is broken so let\'s fix it and make it better than it was before," he added. "I love that song. And so far when we\'ve sung \'Sky Full of Stars\' in the few concerts we\'ve done there\'s just such a collective feeling of just f--k it. Just sing."

Lawrence is a huge fan of the catchy song, too. Back in September, the

actress watched Martin perform "Sky Full of Stars" at the iHeartRadio Festival. "She put her hand on her heart when they announced Coldplay," an eyewitness told Us at the time.
