What are good ways to approach Indian girls without inviting any trouble even in worst case scenario?

Even for just friendship, not necessarily for dating.

How to approach and what to say to a girl that I don't know? such that even if she turns out to be bitchy 或者 hates men 或者 her boyfriend/brother/husband pops out of nowhere, I don't get into any trouble?
This may not be illegal, but 你 know how Indian people are ready to beat up 或者 at-least insult you. And if she has a man with her, he is going to act macho.
Any cop out I can use if situation gets worse?
There have been so many times when I wanted to approach a girl, sometimes in malls, sometimes on the street, sometimes outside a 商店 etc.
But I always talk myself out of doing it.
