My main purpose in 写作 this 文章 is to remember the late great 电视 pioneer that was Jack Barry.

I'm not saying that Jack Barry was the greatest game 显示 host. But, he certainly touched my life the most. Not bad for an older man whose production company Barry/Enright productions produced 52 最佳, 返回页首 rated game shows. As a child, I used to practice his games "The Joker's Wild" and "Tic Tac Dough" in front of a pretend audience, and give out pretend prizes. It was my dream to one 日 appear on either "The Joker's Wild" 或者 "Tic Tac Dough"

No, but Jack Barry died way too soon. At the age of 65, in 1984, Jack Barry suffered a massive 心 attack while jogging. The World 迷失 a game 显示 legend. Bill Cullen became the host of "The Joker's Wild" and remained with the 显示 until it was cancelled in 1986. Although "The Joker's Wild" did return to t.v. in 1990, with Pat Finn as host, but it had 迷失 its luster, after Jack Barry's death. Pat Finn simply was unable to duplicate Jack Barry's sheer charm, charisma and wit, in front of an audience. Jack Barry had an uncanny ability to make the contestant feel at home, even when they 迷失 to 'the devil'. He was always on the contestant's side, and gave all his shows everything that he could muster.

I would now like to reminisce about some of the best shows that were produced 由 Jack Barry and Dan Enright Productions.

(1.) BACK THAT FACT:

On "Back That Fact", this short-lived series, contestants were interviewed and asked 问题 about their backgrounds. Players could either answer truthfully 或者 bluff. If it was believed that a false statement was made, an off-stage voice (announcer Carl Caruso) interrupted and asked the player to "back that fact." If the player could give proof of the statement, he 或者 she won a prize; otherwise the player was defeated.

(2.) THE BIG SURPRISE:

NBC jumped onto the big money 测试 显示 bandwagon with "The Big Surprise" in the fall of 1955. Contestants answered 问题 in a chosen category in their quest to win up to $100,000.

(3.) BLANK CHECK:

(4.) BREAK THE BANK:

Squares numbered from one to twenty, were located on a large playing board and one player selected a square. Two celebrities, each represented 由 that square, gave their response to a question. One celebrity gave the correct answer, the other an incorrect answer. The contestant who picked the celebrity giving the right answer, won the box and continued to play. To win the game, a player had to acquire three boxes with the same money amount. To break the bank, a player had to find three special boxes scattered throughout the board.

(5.) CONCENTRATION:

Based on the children's card game of the same name, the object of the 电视 version was to solve a rebus puzzle 由 matching pairs of prizes that hid the puzzle.

(6.) DOUGH RE MI:

`Three contestants competed for cash prizes in this daytime musical game show. Each game consisted of three songs, valued at $100, $300, and $500. At the start of the game, each of the players was 给 $200. The first three notes of a song were played and the bidding was opened for the fourth note. Players bid part of their bank rolls until a 钟, 贝尔 was rung 或者 no one wished to go any further with the bidding. The first four notes were then played and the player who guessed the song's name correctly won the value of the song. The player who could not guess correctly, would recoup half of the money 迷失 由 challenging another contestant. If the challenged player could guess the name of the song, the challenger 迷失 the entire bid and the challenged player won the value of the song.

(7.) EVERYBODY'S TALKING:

Three studio contestants competed for cash 由 trying to guess the person, place, 或者 thing that was being described 由 "people on the street" interviews that were pre-recorded and edited into a series of short clips.
