maybe..... lucy's mother tries to complete all the keys but she can't she told lucy to love spirits........and i guess lucy's and the dragon slayers died (or hide) because they are tring to accomplish something and lucy's mother is the master of the dragons????? i really don't know, it's just a guess no approvance of the author hehehehehehe

Well... In the last chapter of Fairy Tail, at the very end at least, Datong went straight to a carving of a dragon and a man fighting each other and he mentioned the Dragon King's Festival and it will happen in three days on JULY 7, X791. So I'm thinking that there was a prophecy that Lucy will "light the way into a new era" or something like that, and when Layla died, the Dragon King ordered the dragons on earth to hide until she is old enough or until she can break some spell, don't know what it is, and become a Dragon Slayer HERSELF!!!

But that's just my imagination and theory, besides I made it up, BUT it would be AWESOME if it were to happen for real

I think since Lucy's mother is also a stellar spirit mage like Lucy I bet she knows that something might happen bad in the future or so, so maybe she sacrificed herself in order to sealed the dragons somehow in the eclipse...

The most reasonable answer in my opinion is:
At that date, the dragons went because the dragon slayers where done with there training for the time and they will come back. About Layla, probably a coincidence.

I think that Layla was dragon but then because of lost magic she was turned into human. Then on 7 july year 777 she was taken by other dragons because they were in great danger, even she was in danger. Now they are hiding in secret place where no one except dragons or ex dragons can enter or even find. 😄, I know that it isn't possible but I want it to be true. 😉
