It is still widely debated but the course of the show's storyline, the head writer's post-show TV Guide article and even the actors intentions were clear, they would be together.
I say yes for several reasons. For one thing, Josette was dead, Angelique was dead and Roxanne was dead. Who else was there for him? Julia really loved him although he never really thought about her sexually or romanticly. But he did care for her very much and I remember an episode where he admitted he cared for her more than he appeared. I really did wish the series ran a little longer and we could see Barnabas and Julia end up instead of the 1841 PT rubbish.
I've always thought that Barnabas did love Julia deep down. He'd always been a love at first sight kind of guy and didn't recognize his feelings for her as the genuine article because they had grown over a period of time. I think a terrific way to have wrapped them up would have been not only for Julia to have "won," but for Barnabas to have realized "how" he loved her.
I just wished they showed a good ending with Barnabas and Julia realizing their love instead of the 1841 PT. That would have been a great way to end the show. They went through so much together. But at the last year of the show, it was hinted they were going to end up together and they should've.
Barnabas and Julia were without a doubt the most intriguing relationship on DS, and certainly the most layered of Barnabas' many "romances". The Sweet Young Things were portrayed rather superficially. Typical ingenues of the time, without much depth. And Angelique's obsession was just creepy. I wonder if the scriptwriters of the "Fatal Attraction" movie had ever watched Dark Shadows? lol
Julia was by far the best woman that was attracted to him. All those other girls were basically the Josette clones. Angelique's constant obsession with him was scary. Roxanne to me, was a younger-dumber version of Julia.
YES! I mean JUlia has always been there for Barnabas. Angelique's curse kind of sort of always tried to take Julia away (Her life was atrisk all the time) yet she always made it through. From all the woman Barnabas "loved" Julia was and is the only one who made it through thick and thin. She and barnabas were always meant to be.
I always knew that Julia loved Barnabas. He too loved her deep down but he never knew it. But she was always quiet about it. I think she was afraid of rejection. She loved him, but she felt a hopelessness and she knew that she could never capture his heart.
I think Julia feared rejection because she didn't think she was his type. All of the sweet young things were about twenty years younger than she was. Plus she was opinionated and far from docile in personality. However, I don't think she thought it was hopeless. I believe she always thought that he would one day tire of vapid arm candy and turn to her. He came to her for everything else, why not love.
I think it was really sad that they didn't. I mean it's true that the writers said they did in the summary of what happened after the show ended, but I really wish they would have shown it :/ i think they're great together. Julia is by far the best person for Barnabas. He needed a woman, not a girl like Josette.
I think it would have been more romantic if Barnabas ended up with Josette, his first love after all. Some kind of surprise ending would have been interesting. Perhaps with the destruction of Angelique, Josette could have regained her life. Julia and Barnabas just strike me as very close, caring friends.
Given how much Julia sacrificed for Barnabas and all she did for him, I'd like to think they got together in real time. I always thought they gave the Angelique-Barnabas fans the Catherine-Bramwell PT storyline to satisfy their desire to see their favorites together, but in Real Time, Barnabas and Julia finally got together, married, had a couple of kids and lived Happily Ever After. They went through so much--hatred, like, grudging respect, and finally love--they deserved to be together. She worked to help keep him human and kept his secret. She protected him from Angelique and, when necessary, worked with Angelique to protect and save him. Julia earned Barnabas' love, and I want to think she eventually got it! Love, Robin
