Chapter 13 : Guilt
Lucinda had nearly fainted in shock when she saw Miranda enter the ballroom. She saw how Isabella and her sister had run away, and how her son had gone after the former. She didn't know how they knew each other, but she did know that there was certainly something between them.
Then there was Peter. Her poor husband was fretting over the "kidnapped" girls. He knew Miranda was behind it all, but he wanted to find the girls. Lucinda couldn't blame him either. Nobody wanted to deal with an angry Miranda, who was continously sending in letters to know about the "wellbeing" of her daughter. The woman โ ๆ่ mad woman, Lucinda could say โhad already embarrassed everyone enough in front of Athena and Adrienne. Personally, Lucinda didn't even why she hadn't told Peter anything about knowing Isabella. Perhaps she should tell him, get the burden of his shoulders. And it would get rid of the slight guilt she was feeling.
Yes, that was what she would do. That way, they could pay ๆดๅค attention towards and plot Miranda's punishment.

Athena laid down on her ๅบ, ๅบไธ as the clock struck midnight. It wasn't normal for her to be up this late, but ever since the ball a week ago, her thoughts were a mess.
On one hand, she knew she had a major crush on Randolph. But the crush had developed so quickly it was ไธๅฏๆ่ฎฎ็ for her.
On the other hand, she wanted him to be happy. The jealousy she had felt for the other girl had left her a little bit, so she could think. And her thinking helped her realize that obviously, Randolph and that girl's attraction would probably grow, and it was probably there even before she was present in their lives.
Having the attraction grow meant that Randolph would most likely break the engagement, ๆ่ at least have the girl as his mistress after marrying Athena. But then, maybe he wouldn't. Weren't they just 15? And the girl was probably 14. Wasn't that too early for Athena to worry about such things? She almost felt guilty for having her engagement with Randolph break the couple up.
She sighed. A long, frustrated sigh. What was worse was that her mother told her there was a high chance of Athena staying here Avolania until a ๅนด before her marriage, to 'get to know' the Prince. After the ๅนด was complete, she would marry him and then stay in Avolania permanently. All this was her mother's plan, Athena was told.
Why? That, she wasn't told.
_______________________________________________________________
Miranda could've sworn she saw those damn twins at the ball yesterday. She could've sworn she saw one of those damn twins with the Prince! Of all people, why did it have to be him? She couldn't let those brats take him. Clearly, her chance of having one of her daughters marrying him was out, thanks to that Athena. Her daughters were so dumb they didn't even realize their step sisters were at the ball. Miranda was on her own. She had to make sure she got rid of those twins.
Of course, she felt a bit guilty for not including them in her plan.
_______________________________________________________________
Every since the disaster at the ball, Isabella completely avoided Randolph. When she saw him somewhere near her with his friends, she quickly found a reason to ็งปๅจ away. When she saw him coming towards her, she went in the opposite direction. When he sent her notes asking her to explain what was wrong, and if he did something, she ignored them. And the guilt from the night of the ball, it just increased ็ฑ the days.
She welcomed a distraction introduced ็ฑ Ilana. The distraction : get their revenge from Miranda as soon as possible. All they had to do was get Miranda thrown in prison. That was easier ่ฏด than done. Miranda had always been on everyone's good side until now, and many of the nobility still loved her. Getting her on trail would be very, very difficult, considering the high position she had.
The distraction didn't do much, as Lalaina was constantly busy trying to get Isabella to speak to Randolph.
And that made her feel even ๆดๅค guilty for ignoring him.

Randolph just wanted to know what happened at the ball. What had happened? Was it something he did? If yes, what? If no, what was it? Why was Bella avoiding him? Why didn't she just talk to him? After all, they were friends, weren't they? And if it actually was him, he was so so sorry, and so so guilty.
Guilt, guilt, guilt. In the minds of one and all.

The room is dimly lit, seeing is nearly impossible. An ambush! Men surrounding them on all sides. A battle cry sounds in the air.
Lights flash, swords bash.
A scream, pain filled and blood curdling. Body and ground collide.
Renee makes no attempt to get up.
Fighting styles clash, swords smash.
High and shrill, rings out a shriek. Steps sway, grip loosens,
