Mahone was born in San Antonio, Texas. He first started posting 视频 on YouTube with his friend Alex Constancio in June 2010.[5] 音乐 视频 followed 由 January 2011, and he began to build an online following. He has been called the "second coming of Justin Bieber".[6] when in October 2011, Mahone 发布 a video covering Justin Bieber's song "Mistletoe".[6][7] On August 28, 2012 Mahone announced that he had been officially signed to Chase/Universal Republic Records.[8] Mahone's first single "11:11" charted at #19 on the Billboard Heatseekers Songs chart. On June 5, 2012 Austin Mahone released a 秒 single called "Say Somethin". The single did better than his first, charting at #34 on the Billboard Pop Songs chart.[9] On May 22, 2012 Mahone played at the first Q102 Springle Ball 音乐 concert. Soon after, he sang at the B96 SummerBash in Chicago[10] and on June 22, 2012, in New York City.

Mahone has a strong social media presence. He sells Skype sessions with his 粉丝 at $50 for a 10-minute call.[11] His mother explained that “we’ve changed the prices so many times because we wanted to be fair, we don’t want to gouge people, but the demand was so high.” Mahone's 粉丝 base is dominated 由 teenage females, called "mahomies".[5][6] Kara DioGuardi, who is involved in his career, 说 of his online popularity: "He knows how to connect. I think people feel attached to him because he’s so genuine. He lets them into his bedroom and talks to them in his videos. When 你 see him perform, it’s like he’s 唱歌 to you."[12] In September 2011, he debuted at #38 on the Billboard Social 50 chart, the youngest to appear on the list.[6] He rose to #28 on the 列表 on December 2.[13] In 2012, The 墙 街, 街道 Journal named Mahone as a "leading contender to be the 下一个 Bieber."[14] He responded to the comparisons saying, "It’s cool 你 know, he’s very successful, it’s very flattering. Growing up, Mahone was influenced 由 artists across multiple genres of music, including country singer George Strait. He is also a 粉丝 of Taylor Swift, Flo Rida and Mariah Carey. Mahone taught himself drums, took 吉他 lessons for a 年 and a half and “sang in the 淋浴 … until last 年 when this girl on YouTube helped me with my breath control and taught me different warmups."[12] Mahone's fanbase have called themselves "Mahomies".
