What did I see?

Once, when I was younger, I just happened to be gazing up at the night sky, at one particular star. Suddenly, that 星, 星级 got brighter, then just as suddenly, faded away into nothing. I'm almost 100% sure it was a 星, 星级 and not a plane, and it would be very unlikely for it to have been a comet 或者 meteor, because this 星, 星级 wasn't moving. Did I see a supernova, 或者 something less extreme?
