“Hey” Ethan greeted me and nodded and smiled as much as I didn’t want to get into the whole boy 下一个 door thing, he had a hot body that 你 could see through his tight shirt, and his brown hair matched his dark brown eyes. “Hey, where’s Thor?” I asked as I walked across the 厨房 floor and sat myself down across from him his dark brown eye’s still no me. “Getting ready, we’re going to a club tonight” he said, still eating his 香蕉 and watching me.”It’s 4 o’clock” I 说 raising my eye brow. We’re going somewhere else first, I would tell 你 but I’m afraid my princess Sadie might tell someone” he said, now smiling. “First of all, I’m not your princess Sadie and I wouldn’t tell anyone, so cut the crap and tell me where 你 are going” I said. “Oh, I like a feisty girl, I only wish 你 would 显示 me that somewhere else, alone” he 说 now walking over to me, he sat 下一个 to me and put his hand on my cheek, I slapped his hand away but he we remained in each other’s gaze at each other. I don’t know how to explain it but there was an attraction between me and Ethan one that I would never test but I acknowledge that it’s there.

Just then we heard a thump it startled us both and we looked up Thor was coming down the stairs he looked at us and smiled, he looked smug, I stood up and walked up the stairs just brushing Thor on the left side of his body.

That night I was just sitting on my bed, playing with the man’s pendant in my hand I’m circling the black stone with my hand. And I close my eyes and imagine the man again he is sitting on the 长椅, 沙发 and his arms are around the same girl, and then it stops again. I open my eyes and get up and go down stairs everyone exempt Thor is there. My family are all gathered in the room; my mother is washing up, my father is watching the game and my sister is 阅读 some trashy magazine. I go and sit 下一个 to her I smile as she looks up and gives me that “what is it?’ look. “What?” she asks. “Nothing I was just thinking” I 说 still smiling. “About?” she 说 flipping through the magazine. “Oh 你 know, school, homework oh and love” I 说 as I signed. “Love?” she said, and put the magazine on her lap. “Who’s yours 或者 somebody else’s?” she 说 smiling. “Both” I 说 returning a smile. “So 你 爱情 somebody and you’re finally helping somebody?” she said. “Not exactly” I said, now my smile looking somewhat apologetic. “Then what?” she said, picking up the magazine and throwing it on the table. “Me thinking if I should fall in 爱情 to help someone” I said. “Listen, Sade, Don’t fall in 爱情 with any old guy just so 你 can help other people, 爱情 has survived millions of years without you” she said, putting her hand on my cheek just like Ethan did. “I guess so” I said, putting my hand on her cheek.

That night I couldn’t sleep I kept tossing and turning and then I heard a thump sound coming from my window. I walked over and opened it; it was Thor he looked terrible his eyes all red and skin pale. He came in and sat on my bed. “What happened?” I 说 my voice was hoarse. “At the club we did some coke” he said, as soon as the words were out of his mouth I was on my feet. “What!” I yelled, my voice was no longer hoarse there was nothing but fury. “Shh, you’ll wake mom and dad up” he 说 putting his finger to his lips. “You know that stuff messes with our powers, 你 idiot” I 说 now sitting down 下一个 to him. “I know, at first I 说 no but then there was this guy and he was a jerk and yeah” he said, his eyes were twitching. “Oh my god, I am so telling mum and dad” I said, he gave me a mean glare. “Why?” he said. “Umm let me see” I 说 in a sarcastic tone. “Come on, 你 can’t, plus it’s not just me it’s Ethan” he said, the name made me jump. “Why would that make a difference?” I said, in a sharp ton. “Oh come on, today when I interrupted your little thing today, looks like 你 are the goddess of love” he 说 with a smug smile, I punched him in the arm. “Ew, that’s just gross” I said. “Alright I’m just saying, he likes 你 and I can tell 你 like him” he 说 making his smug smile wider. “Go, leave, now” I 说 pushing him up. “Okay, okay, so are 你 going to tell?” he said. “No, I’m not, now get out” I 说 still pushing him until I got him out the door.
I heard my alarm clock go off. I pressed the snooze button and got up. My window was still open from last night’s fun; I went over and closed it shut, the last thing I needed was flu.

After I got dressed and walked down stairs I sat 下一个 to my mother who was 阅读 something in the paper she looked as if she was about to cry. “Mom, what’s wrong?” I 说 pulling the paper away from her; she looked at me with a tear going down her eye, I picked up the paper and looked at the giant photo. Thor.
It must have been from last night when Ethan and he went to the club. “Oh god” I said.

Darkness whispered outside, and frosty stars sparkled in the windows. Bits of fake snow and glitter were scattered here and there, with crumpled-up programs lying in the pews and the last strains of “Joy to the World” echoing in my head. The 圣诞节 音乐会 was over, and my family was off in the reception hall snarfing down sugar 饼干 with everyone else. Normally I’d be with her (I have an awful sweet tooth)...but this time, something had told me to stay behind.

I glanced around the sanctuary one last time. The dim lighting combined with Christmas-sparkle gave everything a sort of...

Remember that 你 want to make a good impression and that the presentation of your manuscript is the first step. When you're preparing a manuscript, whether it's an article, a short story, 或者 a novel, there are certain styles that make your piece stand out. 你 want it to look professional—not like the large percentage of manuscripts that appear as if the writer took no care at all in the presentation.

Writers disagree on whether editors really care about the typeface and the line spacing and whether the manuscript follows a certain style 或者 format. Some editors don't care about these things,...

It's finally here! All the submissions to this month's 诗歌 contest is included within this soapbox, for your convenience. For the sake of the judges, I am allowing two weeks from today for them to peruse the works herein and then create a pick with their 最佳, 返回页首 five choices. The judges may confer amongst themselves if they wish. Input from the 潮流粉丝俱乐部 community should also be considered. 评论 on particular poems are welcome. The only thing that is prohibited is pointing out (subtly 或者 obviously) which poem is yours. As a poet, that may disqualify 你 from the competition, for betraying the...

Ladies and gentlemen, writers of all ages (especially teens/preteens) and species (except mosquitoes), welcome! I'm bored, have a writer's block made of concrete and am feeling particularly resentful towards the curse known as textese/chatspeak. (Seriously, whatever happened to good ol' morse code?) So I decided the best way to give my 写作 a rest is to help out with yours! Aren't I generous? :)

Before I begin, I'd like to point out that I am not an expert 由 any means. I'm not a 写作 guru 或者 a master advice-giver-person. I am simply a fellow writer who wants to pass on what she's learned;...

love, a word that can bring much joy 或者 much pain
it can put the 心 at ease 或者 under strain
and as that word to each other we spoke
it made our hearts complete and not broke

a feeling unlike any other i felt
as 你 heavenly eyes made my 心 melt
你 were always the one, i could tell
cause from the moment i saw 你 in 爱情 i fell

the words to describe 你 a poet can never posses
你 were always the one that was hard to impress
你 wanted 更多 than 诗歌 and 花 could give
because only on true 爱情 your 心 could live

to capture my 心 for 你 it only took
one moment one smile and one unforgettable look

The 作者 considered. Then the 作者 wrote:

Two opposites sat on a park bench

The 作者 deleted

as soon as it was typed, and replaced it with

and one wanted the other to leave.

The critic noted "That's really not very specific, is it? Two 'opposites'? Come on, you're going to have to be 更多 specific than that."

The 作者 considered. Then the 作者 wrote:

The Republican sat down 下一个 to the Democrat on the park bench

and nodded, satisfied. The critic clucked his tongue. "Welll...it's not exactly original, is it? And how different are they, really? Honestly, 你 couldn't...

Young and fresh and shining bright
Filled with wonder and delight
I see beauty, 日 and night
I am young enough

Whether it's Real 或者 just Pretend
Possibilities have no end
There could be magic, 'round the bend
I am young enough

Dolls can 移动 when I'm asleep
They come to life while I count sheep
And freeze whene'er I dare to peep
I am young enough

Book-friends all come out to play
My 床, 床上 becomes a magic sleigh
Imagination rules the day
I am young enough

The sky can cry a lot of tears
The trees tell secrets; can't 你 hear?
The world's alive: to me that's clear
I am young enough

I've been slowly but steadily coming to the conclusion that 诗歌 as an art form is quickly losing its flavor amongst the iPod generation. And I'm not talking about contemporary poets who don't get read 由 the masses, because as Gertrude Stein would say, "Those who are creating the modern composition authentically are naturally only of importance when they are dead because 由 that time the modern composition having become past is classified and the 描述 of it is classical. That is the reason why the creator of the new composition in the arts is an outlaw until he is a classic." Or,...

your smile, your eyes, your voice
as if 你 gave me a choice
everything about 你 i loved
all other feelings aside i shoved

on your every word i hung
and even among
a crowd, only 你 i see
nowhere else i would rather be

these feelings for you, that are kept inside
i can no longer hide
everything about 你 i admire
你 are all i desire

so kind, so sweet, so passionate
everytime our eyes met
my 心 would race
while looking at your smiling face

full of buety, life, and joy
with my emotions 你 play like a toy
like a wild beast, my emotions cannot be tame
and i don't even know your name

Meredith sat up in the middle of the night screaming. Again. She felt tears wet her eyes at another miserable attempt at sleep. She wanted to pull her sore eyes from her sockets. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t stay asleep. She wasn’t going to get any 更多 sleep tonight, and Meredith knew that. She pulled off the sheets and slowly stood up. She wobbled slightly and held her head. These nightmares were going to be the death of her.
Meredith crept down the hall and into the 厨房 for a little snack. Maybe some warm 牛奶 would put her to sleep. She reached...

Ah, the dreaded cliché! The worst feedback a writer can get is, "Well, it sounds sort of cliché, doesn't it?"

All authors want to be original. If someone even mentions that a writer's work reminds them of someone else's, the writer tenses up. "No, no, no, I'm nothing like him," he says swiftly. "I've never even read him."

"Yeah, but it's kinda like him," the reader persists, believing she is giving a compliment rather than an insult. "He's incredible, 你 should read him!"

The thing is-- it should be a compliment when a reader compares your work to...

I shouldn’t have shot the dog. I definitely shouldn’t have shot the dog. Even if he did chew upon my prized drumsticks, and feast upon my freshly-baked brownies. The little white-and-brown terror, Mickey, belonged to my neighbor. My neighbor, an 87-year-old chain-smoker named Mary, rarely left the confines of her living room. She sat, 日 in and 日 out, as her precious mutts wreaked havoc about the neighborhood.
You can see it! My house, the little beasts have chewed upon everything their gnashing, tiny, sharp little teeth could find. I did my best to keep them out, but the little bastards...

A Valentine’s Gift: A Story of Determination

Every once in a while we face certain challenges in life; whether it would be at work, school, home, 或者 an illness. At times we don’t know if we have the courage and inner strength to get passed our obstacle. And sometimes during our worst obstacles, we can accomplish the unexpected. Depending on the challenges we face in life, we still must keep our dignity, even if we lose the battle.
The two were unprepared for the 日 at the hospital, where Lisa would undergo a biopsy. They thought of the procedure...
