你 know, as much as I 爱情 psychological horror and creative monster designs, I’ve never gotten a chance to talk about a horror game that isn’t really scary, but 更多 weird and strange. So, I think I should talk about that. There isn’t really much strange horror games. One of the best known would be Yume Nikki. However, that would be too obvious for me to talk about, really. So, instead, I’m gonna talk about a game that may not be as weird, but still strange on it’s own. This game being They Breathe.



They Breathe is probably one of the shortest games ever made. The game is only about half an 小时 long. However, within that half an hour, it still manages to be scary and tell an interesting, yet vague story. And 你 know that I 爱情 vague storytelling. Hell, it’s one of the few things I actually like about Five Nights at Freddy’s. In this game, 你 play as a little frog, who goes into the water and swims to the bottom. At first, it doesn’t seem like much. As 你 keep going, 你 realize that oxygen is scarce, so 你 need to 吞, 燕子 bubbles in order to get oxygen back. If 你 run out of oxygen, 你 die. So, as 你 keep going, 你 start to see grey frogs that are drowning. It’s a bit creepy, but it gets even worse when 你 go deeper into the water. 你 find that there is a forest underneath the water, as if there was a flood. 你 also find these moose creatures.



These creatures are the main enemy of the game. They will ram into 你 and attempt to make 你 lose oxygen before killing you. At first, they don’t seem too scary despite them ramming into 你 to murder you, but it gets so much worse after this. As 你 go deeper into the water, 你 find these large jellyfish creatures that look similar to the bodies of the moose creatures. But, soon, 你 notice that these jellyfish attack the frogs until they die, then grab them and attack them to their body. So the heads of these creatures are actually frogs attached to them. It’s like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, except surprisingly 更多 creepy. And yes, it can get worse. Once 你 finally reach the bottom of the lake, 你 find…. THIS



This… creature is an alien that arrived on earth and landed in the ocean. As it turns out, this creature isn’t able to breath the air on earth, and needs to find a way to breathe 或者 it would possibly die. So, it creates these jellyfish creatures that you’ve seen to find a way for the alien creature to breath earth’s oxygen. So, these jellyfish steal frogs in order to allow it to breath air. Why frogs, I don’t know? Anyway, it floods the forest to find the frogs easier and begins killing them in order to breath oxygen, and just wants to live. The problem is that, even though it tries to live, it is still a problem to frogs, which is why the frog 你 play as is trying to destroy the alien creature. So, this is a game that shows every character, even the antagonist, as wanting to survive but both sides are antagonising the other in a way, so it’s hard for there to be a good 或者 evil character. It’s just survival for both sides, and I find that to be interesting. I enjoy horror games that make me think these sort of things, which is why I kinda like They Breathe. Sure, it’s VERY short, but it’s still a game worth checking out if 你 have thirty 分钟 to spare. Take care.
