Advertisements like commercials have many effects on people. Some of these effects can have a negative impact on someone. These negative effects on people can make people feel bad about how they look at themselves. Seeing certain advertisements so many times a 日 can cost someone 更多 than just a few bucks in a store, it can cost them their confidence in yourself.
模特 in ads usually have a certain body type. When people see this body type so many times they start to think that that is how normal people should look, when in reality, it usually is not. One woman, Jean Kilbourne, an 作者 and a filmmaker who speaks about body image in advertising, explains this problem very well. She gives a presentation in a video titled “The Dangerous Ways Ads See Women” where she tells about how advertisements 显示 beautiful women 或者 they change women’s bodies to make them look beautiful to the world. Kilbourne gives examples on how advertisements shame women for not looking the way the 模特 in the ads look so that the women buy their products. She gives a simple quote; “There’s no way to measure up to this impossible ideal.” There’s no way to look like the 模特 do. The 模特 have either got the right genes, had surgery, 或者 they were touched up 由 photoshop to make them look like the way they do. Even if women buy the products in the ads, they will not look like the models. This gives women the idea that they will never be beautiful, no matter how many beauty products they purchase. This sends some women, and sometimes even men, into a spiral of low self-esteem.
Kilbourne also addresses the issue of sex in advertising. Ads use a lot of sex and it is a major problem because they only use young and beautiful looking people. These types of ads have different effects on different people. When adolescents see these ads they start to learn and pick up on sexual behaviors. When older people see these ads they can feel like they are not sexy. Kilbourne states “If you're not young and perfect looking, 你 have no sexuality.” They think that they do not look like the young and sexy people in the ad. This causes them to hate their bodies and feel less desirable.
Some may say that the problems of advertising are not real. This may be because they believe advertising has no effect on them. This simply is not true. A man 由 the name of Jib Fowles, an 作者 who has written 图书 on the psychology behind advertising, says in a paper he wrote on the 15 basic appeals in advertising that advertisers do what they can to get into the subconscious minds of the people. "In effect, advertisers over the years have blindly felt their way around the underside of the American psyche, and 由 trial and error have discovered the softest points of entree, the places where their messages have the greatest likelihood of getting 由 consumers' defenses." How can people ignore ads when they attack them in the place they cannot escape from: their minds?
I myself have experienced low self-esteem due to advertising. In most commercials men are not usually portrayed as my kind of looks and body type. I am overweight and I do not have the ideal manly facial features. For most of my life, I have seen men in commercials with skinny figures and some who are 更多 muscular and tan. Seeing these guys on TV so many times a 日 make me feel self-conscious about my own body image and sometimes make me feel bad about what I eat. As for facial features, most men in commercials have sharp and strong features. They have strong jaws, chiseled chins, and perfectly smooth, clear skin. My face is 更多 round and my features are softer. Another reason why I’m self-conscious about my face is because some people would consider my nose to be quite large. Sometimes I get so caught up with the way I look I consider getting surgery to make my nose a little smaller. I also feel like I have to skip a meal once in awhile because I get scared thinking I might gain another ten pounds. My own experience in the negative effects that advertising causes has really opened my eyes on the issue of people dealing with low self-esteem.
Pushing hard to achieve 或者 simply unattainable beauty into the minds of people can cause them to suffer from lack of confidence in themselves. There has to be a change in the ad business so the ads and commercials no longer have such bad effects on people. Once we change the looks of advertising people can change the way that they look at themselves and one another.

Okay, i was eating breakfast one morning when the room started to get hotter and hotter and HOTTER! It was soooo hot that i felt like there were burns all over my body. IT WAS A FRIGGIN ATOM BOMB!! See i was doing the dishes and my immature brother was running around and he accidentaly threw a platypus toy down the drain but before i found out anything went wrong IT WAS ALREDY IN THERE ALL JAMMED UP VERY GOOD!!!! So we grabbed everything that ment something to us.
I grabbed:all my clothings, my Demi Lovato cds that mean lots to me and everything in my room
My brother grabbed:books and a bumper sticker
My grandma grabbed-wait a dvd player not the best choice
But right before the atom bomb went off…………………………
I woke up in my 床, 床上 realizing it was a dream.
