I don't understand how people explode to bits...

I mean, I would understand it if the explosive was INSIDE their bodies and they explode inside out, but when they explode to pieces 由 just STANDING near the explosive? For me, I thought that when the person stood 下一个 to a detonated dynamite 或者 something, the explosion just pushes them back, not disintergate their organs and limbs from their bodies as if they were balloons that just blew up so much they pop. How does this happen?

Jeffersonian said:
Shrapnel gets into the body, the shrapnel (probably hundreds of pieces) rips the body apart much as a single bullet would rip a hole.
