How do 你 go about making people fear 你 and being mean?

Because people tell me I'm too nice and being nice has gotten me in some very uncomfortable situations and I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to hurt the person's feelings.

Oh but those things are kind of hard for me to do.....even when I try to yell at someone I end up bursting out into laughter.....I think I'm hopeless...
