“I haven’t been completely honest with you…” Hugh started. How could he share the mess in his head with someone? He himself had no idea what was going on in there, how could he possibly share it with them, his kids?
“Yeah… Figures… Where have 你 been those nights, dad? Obviously not with Elizabeth… And dad, just say it… we won’t judge you… If 你 think it would hurt us, cause of mum and everything… We’re adults… well most of the time” Charlie smirked. He had to try, he had to reach to his dad, maybe he would hold on to him. Charles was honest when he 说 they wouldn’t judge him, he realized a long time before, that the divorce was something inevitable. He, at the start, had a problem with his parents not being together anymore, but during the whole process of the divorce, he learnt that the end had to come. Although he thought his parents were forever.
Initially, when the divorce news hit him, he was seriously stressed. For a while he cursed dad’s career for having its fair share. His brother, Billy was a little it shaken 由 the separation, but was too busy with college and girls to share his opinion, even though Charlie knew he didn’t have any. His sister, Becks, she never judged any of her parents, she was somehow relieved when they told her about the divorce. Only later did she share with Billy and Charlie that their mum hadn’t been happy for quite time and that she occasionally confessed to the youngest one.
During the months after the divorce, Charlie got used to the idea of his parents being divorced, although it sometimes did come back to bite his ass. He got to see his dad genuinely happy and that made their stay so much better.
At home, in UK, their mum seemed to be so much 更多 relaxed. She didn’t worry about their dad being so far away and she didn’t seem to take that much interest in every gossip that appeared in the paper. The long 迷失 solitude seemed to sooth her. However, Charles knew she would always keep a special place in her 心 for their dad and that it was vice-versa.
Both Jo and Hugh ensured their kids that the divorce was the best choice and that it was mutual. There was no hidden affair behind it 或者 unshared secrets. It seemed like the most natural thing, maybe it was that what was bothering Charlie at first. He had expected it to be 更多 unusual, 更多 complicated. But it was simple. They divorced because staying together wasn’t the best choice.
Charlie snapped from his thoughts back to the reality. Reality he was happy that his father didn’t run away at the thought of opening up. Charles sighed of relief.
“I know 你 won’t judge me… But I judge myself. 你 need to sit down, kids” Hugh nodded to the chairs in the kitchen, they all sat down.
“I have been spending time with Lisa…” he held his breath for a second, awaiting the reactions. But the kids just nodded him to continue.
“At her home…” he 说 carefully, as to not break the kids in case they still had high hopes for him and Jo.
Billy shook his head “What… Are 你 a couple? But then Elizabeth…” he was so confused.
“It much 更多 complicated than that.” Hugh gasped. How can he share this with his kids? They were so young for this mess.
“Dad?” Becca asked confused as well and Hugh finally opened up.
“I’d like to think 你 are old enough to understand what I got myself into…” he paused.
“Go on” Charlie encouraged him
“Lisa and me… we aren’t… weren’t… a thing… but we were together… If that makes sense at all” he frowned. He still couldn’t find a right way to get it all out of his system.
Rebecca shook her head again “ I don’t think I understand…”
Just when Hugh was about to explain what he meant, Billy cut in, saving him
“Becks, I think what dad’s trying to say is, that they had sex but they weren’t in a real relationship”
Hugh scoffed; saving him did NOT have to have a word sex in there “William?!”
“Dad… she knows what sex is…” Charlie giggled and Becca turned slightly pink. In a second, the realization hit Billy.
“Wait… How long has this been going on? Have 你 and mum…”
“ The divorce was already in the process, don’t worry…” Hugh continued almost silently.
And then he explained everything to them. How Lisa and he made an arrangement, what it considered and why he came 首页 so frustrated that morning. He just didn’t know how he felt towards her anymore. He was never put in a situation like that before and he had no idea what to expect from himself. He was scared. He let his kids know that. He was scared. But maybe the new situation wasn’t as scary as the little voice in his head telling him that he, in fact, knew how he felt, but was rather pleased with the mess in his head than actually admit his feelings.
“Dad?” Becca held his hand. He raised his gaze and Becca froze. The look in their dad’s eyes was a desperate call for help. The kids were damned if they let their dad mess up something it meant so much to him, even if he couldn’t 或者 wouldn’t admit it.
So, I know I'm jumping up and down the past and present, but I hope 你 can understand XD
