Last time we saw Dany, she reluctantly shackled her dragons, Rhaegal and Viserion, after Drogon escaped into the wild and burned a little girl. After conquering a number of slaver cities, she’s staying put in Meereen to practice being a true ruler. Season five may see the Khaleesi getting tangled in the Meereenese knot.

With no qualms leaving The Hound to die after a brutal encounter with Brienne, she slips past them both and secures passage to Braavos, following the face-changing example of the mysterious Jaqen H’ghar.

Jon lost much, including many comrades as well as star-crossed love Ygritte, in the Battle at Castle Black, despite ultimately winning the struggle. Jon’s current plans involve rebuilding the Night’s Watch and dealing with Stannis and Melisandre’s presence at the Wall.

Covering for Littlefinger throwing her crazy aunt Lysa out of the Moon Door, Sansa fully allies herself with her mother’s childhood friend, playing him just as much as he’s played everyone so far in the “game of thrones.”

9. Sandor “The Hound” Clegane (Rory McCann)

The Hound spent much of season four traveling with Arya Stark with the intention of receiving payment for her safe return to her family in the Vale. Nothing goes as planned, and he ends the season with mortal wounds and abandoned by Arya to die alone.

Reek, Reek it rhymes with meek. Transformed after unimaginable torture and mutilation at the hands of Ramsay Snow, the son of the Lord of the Iron Islands considers himself Reek, a loyal, weak servant to the newly legitimized bastard son of Roose Bolton, the current Warden of the North.

Sam has fully come out of his shell, adopting a renewed sense of confidence and subsequently surviving the Battle at Castle Black. Thanks to the help of Hodor and the Reeds, Bran has reached the Three-Eyed Raven beyond the Wall. He’s now tasked with training with the Raven, really an aged man connected to weirwood roots. He may never walk again, but the Raven promises he will fly.

Meera Reed has completed her mission to protect Bran on his journey over the Wall to the Three-Eyed Raven. Now, she mourns the death of her brother whom she lost just as they reached their destination

The puzzles pieces are finally falling into place for Petyr Baelish. Having tied up the loose end of Lysa Arryn, whom he convinced to kill her husband and thus starting off the events of the entire series, he endeavors to travel through the Vale with Lysa’s son’s steward and the apple of his eye, Sansa.

Always playing the long game, Varys publicly denounces Tyrion as Joffrey’s killer but ensures his escape on board a ship to Essos. Upon hearing the bells raising alarm to Tywin’s murder, he decides to head back to his homeland and join Tyrion in exile.

Hurt yet victorious after an intense skirmish with the Hound, she loses track of Arya Stark yet ostensibly continues her quest with Pod to find Sansa and ensure her safety, as promised by her kindred spirit, Jaime.

Following his marriage arranged by Cersei, Bronn bids Tyrion farewell, declining to fight on his behalf in a trial by combat against Gregor Clegane. Now, he’s sitting pretty as Bronn of the Blackwater, scheming for more riches.

Two husbands down, Margaery is now working on making the third match her last. Learning from her grandmother Lady Olenna’s example, Margaery has “mourned” Joffrey’s death, focusing on imparting her influence on young King Tommen, much to Cersei’s chagrin.

Self-styled King Stannis has relocated his efforts to the North after his great losses at the Battle of the Blackwater. With a tentative allegiance with the Night’s Watch after aiding them in their conflict with the wildlings, Stannis hopes to use the North as his base to reclaim Westeros as its rightful king.

Having learned to read under the tutelage of Stannis’ daughter Shireen, Davos has secured himself back into the good graces of his king, encouraging him to rejuvenate his claim to the throne by aiding the Night’s Watch.

Priestess to the Lord of Light and trusted lover/advisor to King Stannis, Melisandre accompanies him to the North to more directly influence his campaign to take the throne. Through the pyre of the fallen Night’s Watchmen, she spots Jon Snow. But what does she see?

Gilly and her baby boy survived the Battle at Castle Black, along with the cowardly Janos Slynt, and continue to take refuge with the Night’s Watch. In honor of Sam’s bravery and love for her, Gilly has named her son, Sam.

Having offered Jon Snow a truce, the King-Beyond-the-Wall is taken captive by Stannis in his northern campaign. Thanks to Jon’s interference, he’s spared an execution and taken to Castle Black, where he’s currently imprisoned.

Fighting for the Free Folk, Tormund was taken prisoner during the Battle at Castle Black and was last seen convincing Jon Snow to bring Ygritte’s body beyond the Wall to “the real North.”

Formerly known as Ramsay Snow, the dastardly bastard son of the Lord of the Dreadfort has been made legitimate as a reward to his physical/psychological manipulation of Theon Greyjoy. Because on

, more often than not, bad guys win.

Ridding of the Starks as part of his partnership with the Freys and Lannisters, Roose Bolton marches on Winterfell to officially take up his new position as the new Warden of the North.

Jumping off his steamy encounter with Dany, Daario is engaged in retaking the slaver city Yunkai with his mercenary band, the Second Sons, on behalf of the Mother of Dragons herself.

The paramour of the Red Viper and mother to his younger children, Ellaria has most likely returned to Dorne, having witnessed Oberyn’s gruesome death at the hands of Gregor Clegane in Tyrion’s trial by combat.

Safe at her home in Highgarden, the Queen of Thorns deftly eluded the drama in King’s Landing following the assassination of King Joffrey, a death she may or may not have planned with Littlefinger.
