This isn't about disliking Merida, as I haven't even seen the movie, but regardless of that my opinion would remain the same even if she ends up becoming my favourite character of all time. It may be considered a petty and/or cliché thing to say but personally I want the line up to consist of the movies that are JUST Disney- yeah, I know Pixar is part of Disney, but I don't think Pixar should be included in this lineup. Simple as that. Pixar gets enough recognition as it is, I just hope earlier Princesses like Jasmine, Pocahontas and Mulan (and others, but those 3 are the most in 'danger') aren't used even less than they already are, which will inevitably happen, because of Merida's addition to the lineup.

I'm not really bothered by it. I love Merida, she'll add a lot qualities to the group and another red head. What I'm more concerned about is, what kind of changes will this bring to line-up? Like, is this representative of Disney taking the line in a new direction? She doesn't sing, she doesn't have "feminine" interests, and unlike Pocahontas and Mulan, she's really popular right now and new. So they can't leave her out of pictures and stuff. I'm really curious about whether this will affect the line or not.

I didn't like her or her movie, it felt like it was trying to be a Disney movie with the story and magic but to much Pixar humor wreaked it. If anyone should join the line up it should be her mom.

I haven't seen the movie, but like Mongoose09, I could end up liking Merida and Brave more than Mulan (in case you haven't figured out she's my favorite) and I still wouldn't want her in the lineup. Brave is a Pixar movie. Yes, Disney does own Pixar, but we don't see Princess Leia joining the lineup. Disney doesn't count the Pixar movies in their cannon of animated films. Also, this seems a really stupid business decision on Pixar's count. Even I can see the danger. One of their characters will be marketed with absolutely no recognition given to them, and imagine the problems that would be created if Pixar were to decide they wanted to break from Disney. However, I am really upset about this because her movie is not a musical or a romance, and Elionwy and Kida- characters that are Disney through and through- are kept out of the lineup because of that. It just doesn't seem fair that a character who even comes from a different company wouldn't be kept out for the same reasons. At first I wanted her in the lineup, but the more I thought about it, the stronger my feelings were for the opposite.

I'm against adding princesses to the line-up, specially if they're 3D

My disapproval has nothing to do with Brave or Merida herself it's just the fact that she DOESN'T sing, or have a love interest and ok I got it she's different and unique from the rest but trust me this is a terrible investment on Disney's part Merida is going to be so limited on products.

I absolutely love her and she's one of my all time favorite animated heroines but she doesn't belong. She doesn't sing and she doesn't have a prince. If she joins we won't have an even number of Princesses with their Princes. They should've gave her a love interest. She stands out too much! I sure hope this is just a rumor just like when they said Rapunzel wouldn't be joining the disney princess line-up. Please disney don't have Merida join, I'd even go so far to say she'd ruin the disney princesses.

She is a Princess so she has more right to be in the line up than Mulan does, sure she saved China, but she was born a commoner and married a commoner, sure Merida doesn't sing or have a prince, but when I looked at passed polls that asked 'Do you want a Princess with no Prince?' Some said no but most said yes because they wanted a Princesses who didn't need a man other questions asked 'Do you want a Princess who doesn't sing?' and sure there were no's but once again there were many yes's because some people got tired of the singing. Also I think Merida is a good idea because maybe she will get boys more into the franchise because boys don't like the singing, and they want action and that's what is in Brave. I also LOVE Merida and some people say they want a Princess who isn't caucasian and sure Merida is white, but she is Scottish so she is racially diverse, and many little girls love her, and love dressing up as her so in the end Disney is doing what the little kids what because in the end that's what their all about!

I agree with Mongoose09, I think that too many new princesses crowd out the old ones and diminish their prominence.

I love Merida! I'm all for it! I guess I just think ten princesses is a good number, and eleven is a bit too much/awkward. Other than that, I don't oppose.

I don't even consider Mulan or Rapunzel princesses. I just can't consider any of the 3-D stuff really classic princess in my opinion. It just doesn't feel the same. (And Mulan is really not a princess, technically)

I like Merida, and I like the movie Brave, but she is not a DISNEY princess. She was created by Pixar, and Disney just want to make her an official princess so they can get more money from all the merchandise they can sell of her, then they'll probably give only a small amount of it to Pixar for using their creation. I have always disliked the partnership between Disney and Pixar, and this just makes me dislike it even more.

It would probably be lame but can't they have a Pixar Princess range? If Merida is so popular amongst children (which I know shes not) she'll just end up like Mulan and Pocahontas on barely any merchandise.. except with those two I would spend my money to buy their merchandise :)

I'm 50/50 about it, I guess. On one hand, I think all the points made by the ones that are opposed to the idea of Merida joining the line up are valid and legitimate. In addition to that she doesn't bring anything new to the table because we had an infinite number of rebellious, dashing and outspoken princesses before and the arranged marriage issue was imo much better addressed in Jasmine's story than in Merida's. Merida story didn't revolve around her being a princess, it revolved around her incredibly complicated relationship with her mother Elinor. Technically, I see no need in adding her to the line up, not marketing wise and neither logic wise. Merida already has a big fanbase with the merchandise and other Brave related products selling incredibly well therefore the princess title isn't going to change much in that departement.

On the other hand, I can appreciate this decision considering that it's not much of a surprize since the rumors about Merida joining the line up started coming from the oficial sources even back when Brave was just released.

No, no, no. But unlike others above, I'm not against CGI princesses because my favorite DP is Rapunzel. Its extrememly annoying when everyone complains "oh its not CLASSIC Disney, its new, thats dumb". If you were die-hard Disney fans like you claim to be, you should know that Walt would absolutely love Tangled because he was all about trying new things and stretching imagination. Im not against Merida because shes CGI because thats the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Its 2012 people. Times are changing. Sorry, but children nowadays are way more attracted to fun, bright, colorful movies like Tangled. The classics are amazing, but a 1937 film like Snow White is just boring to little kids. But anyways, Merida doesnt belong. Shes Pixar. Pixar should make their own line-up if they really want, but she does not qualify as a DP. It would be a horrible decision for Disney. I really wish Walt was here to see all this :(

I do agree with those who said princesses like Poca and even Snow White who doesnt get the recognition she deserves as it is, will be even more pushed out of the way. Its really sad to me... :'(

I am so excited that she is joining! My Family loves the Movie and think that it is a lot better then some of the other DP movies...in my opinion Merida is a lot more "real" then the other Princesses...I like how she does not "have her cake and eat it too" like is protrayed in some of the other movies...I hate when they show a Princess as spoiled and rebelleous and the girl still gets what she wants in the end even though she put others in danger....Merida learns to compromise and work with her parents instead of fighting against them...Brave is a beautiful movie and love how the family dynamic is shown and I am tired of hearing the Pixar argument...Pixar is a part of Disney now so Brave is a disney/Pixar movie...the other Pixar Princesses are not DP because they were just Pixar at the time but Merida was made as a Disney/Pixar film thus she is a DP....
