Is this a bad TV show? [ 3 支持 for best answer ! x ]

So I'm 14 and I really want to watch this 显示 called The Vampire Diaries. Now, my dad doesn't even know about the 显示 but he's always had this thing against vampire shows ever since they started getting 流行的 and won't let me watch anything to do with them. He says they're evil and bad and all this stuff, but he lets me watch 超人前传 which has like those different kinds of creatures on it, but apparently that's different...
Can someone explain to me what he thinks is so terrible about watching the 显示 或者 give me an idea of how 你 think I can 显示 him it's really not bad?

thanks (:

He might just be fed up with the teenage vampire fad, like so many of us are. But if you're asking what might be unchristian about vampirism, I believe I can answer that.

吸血鬼 have been associated with demons (and in many mythology, are demons), and are therefore of course associated with Hell and the devil in Christianity. Most vampire shows/books do not reference 或者 connect with Christianity. Their 吸血鬼 are demons, but not necessarily in a Christian sense.

That being said, 吸血鬼 have been, until recently, the villains in most vampire stories, and that, as I understand it, is OK, because 吸血鬼 are, typically, evil. I think that the reticence some Christians have about accepting the new vampire trend is that they are painting 吸血鬼 in a new light, namely, as 超能英雄 that the average person might connect with, not villains to hate. They might see this as trying to engender sympathy for demons, and 由 association, the devil. It's a similar argument I hear against Harry Potter, although that has to do with witches and wizards, not vampires.

While I, personally, find this to be a weak argument, and I definitely don't agree with it, I can at least understand it. Inevitably, the best 建议 I can give 你 is to listen to your father. He just wants what's best for you. I'd recommend a 显示 like Supernatural, which also has 吸血鬼 and other demons, (and is one of the rare shows that actually draws on Christian scripture to justify it), but they are still in a sinister, demonic role. They aren't Edward Cullen.

EDIT: HA, I just looked at your 个人资料 and see you're already an SPN fan. My bad. Knowing that, my other recommendation would be the New Series of Doctor Who. Aliens, vampires, all sorts of fun wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff.

Well it's a tv show, it's not real, it's fiction, a product of someone being bored one 日 so he/she picked up a pen and started 写作 out of her fantasy! And 吸血鬼 don't exist, let's throw that out there as well.. ;).

Maybe it's an underlying meaning of the vampire shows that a girl runs off with a monster? Maybe he wants to prevent 你 from thinking that it's cool and romantic to run away from 首页 for a guy?I haven't seen the vampire shows but isn't that what it's all about?

I would first ask EXACTLY why he hates those shows so much. Then 你 can try talking him out of it! ;)
Hope I helped!

Watching a particular 显示 is not in it's self a sin. I'll try to answer from a dads point of view. He may not mind 超人前传 because we have grown up with 超人 all our lives. 超人前传 is easier to distinguish as fiction and as good vs evil.
The problem with the newer vampire shows and 邪恶力量 is that they now blur the line between good and evil. The original Dracula actually had a Christian side to it. Dracula appeared only at night when it was dark. The bible uses darkness to symbolize evil. Also in Dracula, he was repelled 由 the cross. This showed that Christ death brought victory over the devil. In today's movies, 吸血鬼 laugh at crosses 或者 crucifixes. There are also good and bad vampires. If 你 watch these type of 电影院 & shows, 你 should filter in your mind what ideas are good and those that's not. I am a big Doctor Who fan. Sometimes there are plots that go against my personal beliefs. I can seperate fiction from real life. I have gone to sci fi conventions and met people who cannot. Your dad is trying to protect you. What we allow in our minds, can affect how we view reality. In turn, how we view God. Hope that helps.

ok. i use to have the same problem with my mum. when i was younger i was not allowed to watch harry potter at all. my mum told me that it was bad for me, sh reasoned with me telling me that those creatures were not real and in my opinion i think that she was like afraid that i would believe in those sort of thing and the 电影院 would teach me wrong things. i think the reason why your dad does not want 你 to watch it is 更多 of the fact he does not want 你 to become addicted to it. it probably so, i dont have much 建议 about him letting 你 watch it but i guess u could try to 显示 him taht 你 are 更多 mature than he thinks 你 are. in his eyes 你 are still his little child and he just wants to protect you. so i guess 显示 him that 你 are 更多 mature and 你 can take care of yourself. because i finally got to watch harry potter only when the 5 movie came out, and 由 then i think my paremnts thought i was mature enough to handle myself

I think its ridiculous to say its a sin to watch vampire shows 或者 horror movies, etc. Its fiction/not real, so y make a big deal about it? Now its understandable if ur way too into it that it blinds ur opinion in real life & u take deep ideas from it, but it all depends on who is watching it. If u r going into watching the show/movie knowing ur gonna use certain things from it in ur life, then no not a good idea to watch it. But if u just watch it for thrill/entertainment/suspense, theres nothing wrong with it.

It just frustrates me at times when some say ull go to hell for this & that. Vampirism/Harry Potter isnt real, so no, it isnt wrong to watch/read.

Just as long as 你 don't 加入 a cult and start worshipping vampires.

I don't think your dad would be as against the 显示 if it weren't for this whole 随意 teen vampire fad that's going around. But it's just that- a fad. When all those teens mature in a few years they'll look back and think, "Wow... I wore Edward Cullen lipstick? How stupid was I?"

Just be careful with what 你 watch.
It happens like this
Watch porn- become a perv
Watch Spongebob- become a idiot
Watch "The Haunting"- become a idiot that squirts water at demons rather than reciting Scripture 或者 beating the thing with a crucifix/cross
Watch vampire movies- 移动 to Transylvania on the off chance of attracting a (undead) date.

I personally think these shows just do nothing but poison the minds and beliefs of today's young people. I mean, seriously, 你 must be old enough to realize how truly immersive entertainment is. I think that, well, if you're in doubt, 你 should avoid the 显示 altogether.

Well, I've never really heard of it, and I don't know anything about it.
But if your dad has things against 吸血鬼 and stuff, 你 shouldn't watch it, 'coz God COMMANDS us to honor our parents. Not an option. And part of honoring your parents is obeying them.
